On the Books: Little, Brown to publish Willie Nelson's autobiography, Amazon Publishing unveils 'Day One' feature

Today’s news includes confirmed deals for Willie Nelson and Morrissey’s autobiographies, while Amazon and Barnes & Noble unveil more digital features. Read on for today’s headlines:

Little, Brown and Company has acquired the rights to publish Willie Nelson’s autobiography, currently slated for release summer 2015. “Willie’s book will be authentic to the core and bursting with the stories, insight, and wild wit of this true American icon,” executive editor John Parsley stated in the press release.

Amazon Publishing unveiled Day One today, a weekly digital publication that features short fiction and poetry. According to the press release, each issue will include works by authors around the world. For a limited time, an annual subscription will cost $9.99, before upping to its set $19.99. [Amazon]

In related news, the Kindle Matchbook was unveiled Tuesday, and as of Wednesday morning, had about 75,000 e-books available for $2.99 or less. [Publishers Weekly]

Barnes & Noble is also looking to revamp its e-book stock by releasing a $119 black-and-white version of the Nook. [AP]

It’s official: Morrissey’s autobiography will be published Dec. 3 by G.P. Putnam’s Sons.

Random House Children’s Books has acquired online writing community Figment, a user-generated site for teens. [LA Times]

Hollywood director Brett Ratner partnered with Running Press to launch publishing imprint RatPac Press. The joint venture’s first title will be Ben Mezrich’s novel Seven Wonders. Mezrich is the author of The Accidental Billionaires and Bringing Down the House, both of which were turned into films. [Publishers Weekly]
