Sneak peek at DC's #2 'Batgirl' -- EXCLUSIVE

Earlier this month, DC Comics launched a large collection of #1s for their “New 52″ series, including an exhilarating new vision of a back-on-her-feet Batgirl. EW has nabbed an exclusive preview of the Gail Simone-penned #2 issue, which features the superhero — still adjusting to being back on the job after her wheelchair-bound hiatus — facing off against the faceless Mirror to avenge the death of a fallen police officer. Check out a piece of latest chapter in the saga, as well as the ominous, beautiful cover and art by Vincent Cifuentes and Adrian Syaf. Will Batgirl emerge stronger than ever, or will her place on “the list” leave her at the mercy of a Mirror? You’ll be able to find out when the #2 Batgirl goes on sale Wed, Oct. 12. Check out EW’s exclusive sneak peek here.

Great first issue. Cannot wait to read this one!

    • Tom

Catwoman still has this character beat in the looks catagory.

      • Jenn

Which is why I prefer Batgirl.

Does anybody notice that the Batgirl on the cover page looks like Doctor Who’s Karen Gillian!

    • Eric

I don’t even watch Doctor Who but I noticed that right away. Looks good.

    • Cris

I wouldn’t mind seeing Karen Gillan don the Batgirl suit…

  • Esox

    I already miss Oracle.

    • Matt

Ha. Yeah, all of these reboots, graphic novel one- shot/reimaginings and cataclysmic yearly events alienate more people (old and new fans) than they attract.

  • Jenn

    Gorgeous – love the art!

This is going to be a great conference! Caleb Green will be there Sunday night mniistering with live music and he’ll also play a few songs Monday night. We’ll see you all there!Oh and finger foods will be provided each night after the services. =)

  • Rob Grizzly

    That IS some great art

  • Brayden

I’m defiantly going to be picking this issue up next month! The first issue of batgirl was great, number 2 looks amazing! Sounds intriguing, art looks fantastic!

I hate how DC took a confident, mature, and older female character and dumbed her down into a college-aged newbie again. In that cover, I swear Babs looks 12. She was so much better as Oracle, and Steph way a way better fit for the green heroine just geeting her feet under her. And am I the only one who, despite liking Simone’s other stuff, really thinks her writing feels clunky in this book? I mean, it’s no Birds of Prey…

    • Spatula

Probably because she preferred her as Oracle in BoP. I don’t know why they bother changing characters at all if they’re just gonna reset them.

  • Aurelia

Wow, it was nice of them to strip her to her underwear for the cover. And by “nice” I mean “typically adolescent.” This is why I only buy vintage comics.

    • Tom

It is a comicbook. What did you expect? Good?

    • Ana

She’s not stripped down to her underwear. She’s wearing her Batgirl costume.

Thanks, this is great! I just wtnead to say that we are really happy with REDFIN. We feel it generates very robust and accurate 2-DE data. Looking forward to the next features you are going to put into the software! Keep up the good work.

I was really enjoying Stephanie Brown as Batgirl. I think they cut her seried way too short. I know she’s returning as the Spoiler, but would have loved to seen more of her as Batgirl.

    • Stretch

Agreed. DC’s determination to cling to nostalgia (ie, Babs is THE Batgirl) is what’s going to ultimately keep them from bringing in the new readers that they need. Steph was a great intro chracter for a whole new generation of comic book fans.

      • Kizmet

Babs was great as mentor for Stephanie.

Why does Babs regaining her mobility have to come at the cost of her maturity? Post-Reboot Nightwing is still treated like a grown-up.

Oracle was a woman who overcame her handicap. This new, post-reboot Batgirl is a girl who seems to have put her life on hold for three years after being shot until a ‘miracle’ cured her.
