++ According to the Guardian, author Chinua Achebe allegedly declined an offer from rapper-actor 50 Cent of $1 million to use the title Things Fall Apart for his upcoming football movie. The reports claim that 50 Cent was forced to change the title — which Achebe originally took from the William Butler Yeats poem “The Second Coming” — to All Things Fall Apart.

++ Little, Brown has announced in a press release that it will publish Truth and Consequences: Life Inside the Madoff Family by Laurie Sandell. Sandell has conducted extensive interviews with Andrew Madoff, Ruth Madoff, and Catherine Hooper, among others. The book will be released Oct. 31.

++ The “amplified edition” of Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand is coming to the iPad. All you tech-savvy Objectivists will get all kinds of extras.

++ On its final day, the Borders store in the Time Warner Center became an island of misfit books. The Awl rounded up the 33 best books left behind.

The first item makes no sense. Fifty does not need Achebe’s permission because titles cannot be copyrighted. From the U.S. Copyright Office:

“Copyright does not protect names, titles, slogans, or short phrases.”

I could write a book called Jurassic Park if I wanted to, just as long as the text didn’t steal from Michael Chrichton’s.

I feel that an agreement can still be reached between 50 cent and Chinua Achebe. They can work it out i believe so

I THINK 50 CENT SHOULD DIE AND WAKE UP….IT WOULD BE EASIER FOR ACHEBE TO ACCEPT HIS OFFER THAN….!
