'Vampire Academy': Unreleased original chapter from Richelle Mead's 'Bloodlines' - EXCLUSIVE

The first book in Richelle Mead’s new spin-off series, Bloodlines, doesn’t hit stores for a couple weeks, but she’s giving us a sneak peek at an alternate first chapter right now, after fans rose to her challenge of reaching 10,000 pre-ordered copies. The new book features many of the characters from her Vampire Academy novels, and this excerpt — originally the beginning of Bloodlines — is told from the point of view of Adrian, one of her popular bloodsuckers. Check it out below.

i am sorry but i only speek english and some french and i have no clue what language that is and that is the only way it is showing up on my ipad

    • Laura

      Its in English

    • Lucas

If you are trying to read it on your ipad then the odd ‘language’ is probably that it came up in computer code. The embedded reader is probably Flash or Java based and thus doesn’t work on the ipad.

      It’s fine on a computer

I was sooo excited to read this only to realise its in gibberish!!

  • suly

    What in the world!?

  • foreverme123

    works now

  • Casey

Amazing! Once again you prove what an awesome writer you are, Richelle! And this chapter just builds my love for Adrian (even though I’m Team Dimka). Can’t wait until the 23rd!!!

    • nina

      i couldnt agree more

  • Risha

OMG THAT IS AWESOME! I only wish I could have read what that dinner was like! haha that would have been a great chapter…

    • Kat

OMFG, I couldn’t agree more. It was probably extremely awkward and Rose probably would have tried to talk to Adrian after to try to make him see that things just wouldn’t have worked between them. But it would have been funny…

  • Cygnus

Yay, more vampire novels. Never enough of those around.

This is a spinoff of a book series that came out years ago… So shame on the author for going on with her characters. She should stop because they’re vampires. Seriously, I think some people see the word vampire and tune out everything else. That bias is keeping so many people from fantastic books/tv.

A book series that came out years ago? The last one was just recently released. No shame for her, its her book series, she has more than enough right to continue her story. It is Her Story. Honestly, I don’t see the word vampire and freak. Really, this series isn’t even based off the fact that there are vampires, they could be ghosts and people would still love all the heartbreak and action. And its a free country, people can read and watch whatever they feel like. That’s like saying we should get rid of all the harry potter books and movies and anything wizard related because people see wizard and its depriving them of other books and such. If you don’t want to read the spin off, then don’t, but don’t criticize Richelle for making her dream come alive and answering all her fan’s pleas.

Why is it in another language? I would have thought it would be in English, or is it a joke?

  • Karson

She changed the spelling of Dimitri’s name…

    • stacey

Yer it looks more like she made a mistake a few times than a different spelling but it bugged me. Hopefully in the final copy she has spelled it right.

      • Dani

Didn’t you even read her blog? This is the ALTERNATIVE first chapter… meaning it has been cut from the book!!! She was just awesome enough to let us read it, it was never ment to be published.

    • Emily

I didn’t even notice that until you pointed it out, but year, the first “i” is missing. I wonder if it’s just a spelling error? Or another problem that this text format keeps appearing to be experiencing?

    • Daphne

She said in her blog that it was the spell check that changed Dimitri to Dmitri.

    • HANNAH

If you type ‘Dimitri’ into google translate, and translate it into Russian, it comes up as ‘Dmitri.’ So, if you go by the Russian spelling – which is most likely right, as Dimka is Russian- she’s spelt it right here, but incorrectly in the books.

  • Tiffany

Thank you for changing it from switching characters. As a reader, I find it jarring when a book is written like that, and it’s hard to get immersed in the story.

  • Burgandi

Amazing! I can’t wait to get out there and buy the book!!!! :)

Also – To those who keep saying it’s in gibberish, are you sure you’re not just missing the zoom button?

  • Bethalee

I love the Vampire Academy series (Rose is snarky and sarcastic and wonderful), so I’ve really been looking forward to Bloodlines. Adrian has always been one of my favorites–looks like this spin-off won’t disappoint. Thanks for the treat, Richelle and EW!

  • hayley

It’s not even showing up for me.

  • Lisa

Aw Richelle why did you change the spelling of Dimitri’s name? Anyways I love it! I can’t wait until Blood line comes out. I feel so bad for Adrian. Poor Adrian. =( I love Dimitri and Rose together but yet somehow I love Rose and Adrian together. *sigh* Only if Rose could be with both of them.

    • Sara

Rose isn’t a ho to be with both guys.
Adrian will get his happy ending and it’ll be someone who’s better for him than Rose. :)

    • Oli

      lol that would be kinky.

    • Gaze

Richelle didn’t change Dimitri’s name it was a computer error.

    • Deena

I agree with u 100%! finally! sum1 agrees!! thats how i feel too!

  • Vicki

omg!! cant wait til the real book comes out, kinda makes me wish it was all this way! but i’m still super excited.
