Image Credit: Jeffrey Mayer/WireImage.comThe mother of the late actress Brittany Murphy (Clueless, 8 Mile) is ready to set the record straight with a biography of her daughter, according to E! News. Sharon Murphy (far left) announced her plan for the book on Nov. 10 — the day that would have been Brittany’s 33rd birthday if the actress hadn’t passed away last December from a combination of pneumonia and prescription drugs. The tragedy prompted a swirl of speculation about Brittany’s lifestyle, rumors that Sharon Murphy hopes to stamp out once and for all. “This book will be my way of celebrating and honoring her extraordinary life and career,” said Murphy, who promised to give part of the book’s proceeds to charity. “I am looking forward to everyone reading the accurate account about my daughter, her life, loves and career.”
Sharon Murphy’s goal is nothing if not noble; certainly someone ought to step up to the defense of her daughter after her reputation was savaged in the media frenzy surrounding her death. But a book like this will also invite a new wave of scrutiny. Would Brittany’s memory be better served by letting her legacy live on through her work rather than in a biography? Let us know what you think in the comments.

You’re a virgin who can’t drive.
That was way harsh.
I don’t get it.
You’re clueless.
@ana – lol.
Oh, does it have something to do with the movie Clueless? I’ve never seen it.
I love that you told us which on in the picture is the mother. i would never have guessed.
I wont read the book, but i liked Brittany a lot and own several of her movies.
It’s always the random and unexpected things that crack me up. Your comment made me laugh out loud!
how is this a noble effort on her mother’s part? she’s just doing it to make a buck (don’t bother pointing out that she’s giving some money to charity, that fraction of a percentage doesn’t convince me).
I hate to join in the cynicism, but I have to agree. She no longer has a meal ticket, so is cashing in where she can. I certainly wouldn’t want my mother to do the same for me, even it was a whitewash job.
I absolutely loved Brittany. But her mother was just as sick as Brit was, in the end. She, Brittany, and Simon Monjack (B’s husband), all enabled each other and lived together in near solitude in that house.
Did you see the “Larry King Live” interview with her and Monjack after Brittany passed away? Incoherent, conspiracy theories all over the place. Did you see Brittany on one of her last TV interviews in the fall on “Craig Ferguson”? She was so clearly high, as a long-time fan of hers, I was so distressed. And Craig, himself a recovering addict, actually looked concerned himself.
The truth will NOT be written by Sharon. The TRUTH is that if Brittany had been helped, she’d be alive today. If she had been helped, she’d be playing roles worthy of Oscar nominations. Did you see, Mr. Markovitz, Brittany’s later work? (Indie films in 2007, 2008.) She was so dazed and out of it, it’s heartbreaking to watch.
This was a very preventable tragedy. Sharon is in very deep denial.
Miss you, Brittany.
her tox report came out clean after her death…so there isn’t really anything to confirm one way or another
Yes, that is true. And it also said that there was no sign of alcohol or drug abuse. I always thought Brittany was a little spacey and eccentric. I don’t mean that as a criticism, I thought it was charming.
Um, the LA County Coroner’s Office is dirty and on the take. Do you know the amount of addict celeb autopsy’s that came back clean that year? Corey Haim, who was found like WITH heroin, was clear. MJ, aside from propothal was clear. That celebutante who was living in squalor and every single one of her friends and family was aware of her drug problem? CLEAR. Bill Maher even talked about this on his show. There was another death too, that came back clear.
And BTW, Brittany was always zany, I loved that too. But her behavior in the last couple of years was COMPLETELY different. And she DID have some vicodin in her system after her death. And the LAPD did a search of her home and found a 180-count bottle of Vicodin with about 3 pills left– even though it was just been prescribed days earlier. Hmmmm?
Zo I’m lost. Even in the autopsy, there was nothing that showed her to be a drug addict. Where can I read about this so-called drug activity?
@Dave lol what?
How gross, first she sleeps with her daughter’s (vile) husband and now she’s writing a “tell all” about her (deceased) daughter. People have no sense of shame. What a disgusting way to honor her daughter’s memory.
Indeed
Only Dr. Smith could have said it better.
JPX ist usually people that are warped that believe that you can’t sleep in the same house as your in-laws without sleeping with them. Some people have boundaries. How is it that you know that they were sleeping together? You know them?
I can’t wait to not read this.
I will read the book for sure, but Brittany’s legacy will live thru her work. She is greatly missed by many. RIP
