Image Credit: Frederick M. Brown/Getty ImagesConservative readers rejoice: Karl Rove has a book club. Yes, you read that right. If Rove can have a Twitter account like all the other cool kids, why not a book club, too? The group, Karl and Clayton’s Summer Book Club, can be found on the reading website, Goodreads. Rove and Fox and Friends anchor Clayton Morris (yeah, Karl’s not doing this alone) will each submit eight books for readers’ consideration. Each week Rove and Morris’s choices will go head-to-head in a poll to determine the read of the week. Did your summer just get more exciting?
For some reason, I picture both Rove and Morris with boxing gloves on, fighting for their respective choices. I mean, they might be on the same team politically, but there’s just something about politics and boxing that really resonates with me. Unfortunately, I’ll have to settle for the online polls. But I think we can all agree a book-themed boxing match would be much more interesting.
The group is currently reading Foreign Influence by Brad Thor. Am I the only one who just yawned reading the title? But more interestingly, it beat out The Time Traveler’s Wife. Which definitely begs the questions of which guy suggested which book. Let’s all take a moment to ponder that thought. Long pause.
I wonder how long it will take before Rove’s memoir Courage and Consequence: My Life as a Conservative in the Fight* makes it on the list. What do you think? Would you join this book club? More than 300 people already have. And what political pundits would you want in your book club? Sound off below.
*See! Boxing!

I cannot picture Karl Rove reading The Time Traveler’s Wife. But that would be hilarious if he DID suggest that book.
300 members in less than 3 weeks Not Bad I signed up last week No politics allowed Just good reading so far ! I can tell You that Clayton Morris is quite the intelligent fellow Has a few Great web sites and now the summer book club Haven’t heard much from Karl Rowe
Who is Breia and why would anyone care what she has to say about anything… let alone books!
hmmmmm a political thriller or fluff about a time traveler? I think the first will make me use my imagination more which is what a good book should do right? Just depends on what kind of reader you are I guess.
What a snippy tone of voice this article’s writer has. Instead of bashing Brad Thor’s book, why doesn’t she try reading it? She might actually enjoy it.
No no, she’s right in this case, Brad Thor writes like an amateur. Vince Flynn is much better.
Perhaps Breia is just bitter that Mr Thor is a successful, multiple time NY Times bestselling author?
Who is Breia? Good question. Probably another faux journalist trying to get herself noticed by bashing those dasterdly right wingers. To Breia, why don’t you try reading decent books as well as truly supporting this country???
Hey, thanks for the heads up about the club! I didn’t know about it, but now that I do, I’ll be sure and tell all my right-wing conspiracy friends. We already have a weekly meeting to plot the post-Obama world order, so I’ll bring the book club up as a point-of-order at the next meeting. I had no idea Entertainment Weekly was still in business. Just goes to show you that capitalism DOES work in spite of itself. Anyway, thanks again.
Hey Breia, why in the world would you knock the title “Foreign Influence”? Those two words have a world of meaning in them! Of course it beat out the Time Traveler’s Wife….NO SURPRISE THERE. Do you even know what readers like? Apparently not. Brad Thor is a great author and if I ever come across another article written by YOU, I will be sure to yawn – knowing already your opinion is out of touch with readers.
M. Dillion just hit the nail on the head. Not a Karl Rove fan, but am a fan of Brad Thor. Hes a multiple NYT best seller whose writing is compared to as the next Robert Ludlum of Bourne fame. High regards for someone whose being knocked by a writer who odds are hasnt read a book of his.
Wow I like the idea of Rove in a boxing match, Can it be arranged between him and the present heavywieght contender? If so the only prize should be that the loser
never is seen or heard in public again!
Thank you Karl and Clayton for the intellectual, stimulating, & historical reads that you have suggested.
For about 5 years I have been weary of the sad-song stories about women & all the fruitless love stories.
Thanks for getting me to enjoy reading again!
JEALOUS…are you, Breia??????
I like to look at your site a couple times 1 week for new readings. I was wondering for those who have any other subjects you pick out?
