The book, scheduled to hit stores this fall, will also discuss her experience coming out as a lesbian and her relationship with DeGeneres.
It’s sad to hear such a funny actress, especially one who’s played characters I’ve loved so much, having such serious problems behind the scenes, but it seems good that she’s coming to terms with them. What do you think? Would you read de Rossi’s book?

I love Portia! She seems like a genuinely nice person. It’ll be interesting to hear her side of the story…
i think the book should be interesting and inspirational to her fans. i don’t, however, see why it’s especially surprising to the writer that ms derossi had problems, as if creative ability and fame immunized her from the kinds of things that many face.
Helloooooooo! Anyone who’s ever seen Porta De Rossi could immediately tell she’s got an eating disorder. Must be a slow news day at EW.com today.
Wow, that’s ridiculously insensitive. Just because a person is particularly thin or fat doesn’t mean they have an eating disorder. Marginalizing and minimalizing them only makes the problem worse.
Just be thankful you haven’t experienced life in her shoes. You obviously don’t understand the seriousness of the disease. Either that or you’re too selfish to be concerned about people who are.
Yeah, I would probably read it, and I don’t read celebs’ books. I think it would be interesting to hear about someone so gorgeous and funny going through those experiences. I hope there’s some good Alley McBeal dirt!
agreed, i dont read celebrity books but i LOVE arrested development and her so i will probably buy it
I’d leaf through it at the bookstore, but I wouldn’t buy it.
I can’t read.
I will certainly buy it, and think it will be good to hear things from her side, esoecially her stuggles with coming out…alot of people will relate to that.
I’m starving for a taste of it. Not having it yet is really eating at me. I’m full of suspense!
I’d say she is largely known for Ally McBeal.
Yes, I think Ally is what launched her to fame. I love her and I actually think I would read her book. It would be the first celeb book that I have ever bought, because I’m usually not interested in what celebs have to say, but her life has been very interesting, so the book should be very interesting too. As for her eating disorder, it wasn’t obvious that she had one because she was skinny, but rather because on Ally she used to be a normal weight, and then when everyone and their mother had an eating disorder on that show, she also dropped a very noticeable amount of weight and went from normal looking to a waif. She looks very good today. She’s still thin, but not unhealthy looking thin. I love her and Ellen together and I hope they have a happy ever after ending, which is so rare in Hollywood.
No she’s mostly known as Ellen’s SO.
Speak for yourself, Sally. I knew who she was before she and Ellen hooked up.
I thought it was fairly common knowledge that once one girl on “Ally” ate way too little the rest of them wound up doing the same – they’ve almost all spoken about it. I do think this could be a really interesting read – she dated Ringo Starr’s step-daughter for a few years before Ellen.
Portia is a very interesting person. I think that I would enjoy reading her book.
Portia is doing the right thing by coming out and discussing a very obvious problem she had. I hope other celebs admit their struggles so hey can offer a real glimpse of how unglamorous not mention unhealthy, Hollywood can be.
She was on “Ally McBeal” back in the day, which I think is where she got her start. She was brilliant in it, but obviously had some kind of eating disorder. Her and Calista Flockhart were both extremely skinny, although from what I’ve heard, Flockhart is just like that all the time (still like that on Brothers & Sisters). Its great that Portia is opening up about her issues and taking control of her life. Good for her!
Didn’t every woman on Ally McBeal have an eating disorder? I think even Vonda Shephard’s fingers looked a little scrawny playing the piano.
You can’t always tell by looking at someone that they are afflicted with the disease. Just like I can’t say you lack intelligence just because of your comment.
Love Portia on Arrested Development and Better Off Ted (the best sitcom no one’s watching) but probably won’t buy the book until it’s in paperback, if then. If all the posters here are real fans, then buy the season 1 dvd of Better Off Ted and watch it when/if it comes back on. The show is great and she’s beyond brilliant in it. http://www.savebetteroffted.com
It makes Lucille Bluth’s comments about Lindsey’s weight (i.e., “you want your belt to buckle, dear, not your chair”) a tiny bit less funny.
I’m looking forward to reading the book. I’ve watched her in programmes since Ally McBeal and think this will be a good read.
