Hilary Duff to write a YA series

Lizzie Maguire, author? It looks like it. Actress Hilary Duff has just signed a multi-book deal with Simon & Schuster to produce a series of young adult novels, the first of which is titled Elixir and will hit stores in October.  According to a release from the publisher, the book “combines the overpowering allure of a dangerous love triangle with thrilling international adventure.”

Duff’s protagonist is a globe-trotting photojournalist who is attempting to unravel the mystery of her father’s disappearance. “I’ve always love the escape of a great book, especially one that features a strong, inspiring female character you feel you really understand,” says Duff. The former teen icon will also be writing a nonfiction book about divorce and its effect on children, which is slated for a Spring 2012 release.

I really think that the word writing, when used in a news article combining Hilary Duff and books, should have quotes around it.

Oh Lauren Conrad, look at the trend you’ve started!

ugh. just… ugh. I bet 97% of it will be copy writers and editors.

Gag me. And the publishing industry wonders why they can barely keep their heads above water.

I love Duff. She always does something different and then everyone else copies her. For example, her amazing album of 2007, Dignity, had the electro pop sound and everyone copied her.
    Sounds fun and exciting

Guys she does write if you guys followed her career you would know. She wrote and co wrote all the songs off of Dignity her album. She knows from experience how to deal with separation from parents she had big drama with it!

Seems like the developing trend for celebrities is to jump on the YA bandwagon. One more of these, and I think my head will explode. Wouldn’t it be nice if celebrities had to query and prove themselves qualified like the rest of us struggling peons?

Co-writing songs and knowing about a subject hardly qualify a person to write novels. Often even talented poets can’t make the jump to prose. Then again, I suppose that’s why we have ghost writers… Ugh.

Can’t stand it. All the marketing money goes for these pseudo writers instead of real ones. For more of my not-so-subtle thoughts on celebrity books, go to http://blog.donnamariebooks.com/2008/09/21/celebrity-childrens-authors.aspx#comment-1585882

A young woman who dealt openly with her parents’ divorce when she was a teen writes a nonfiction book for teens on divorce? This is a great idea! Furthermore, I HOPE she has copy editors, writing help, etc for her books, along with a professional in the counseling field for her nonfiction; don’t most authors have help these days, anyway? Nobody writes a book alone anymore ;) and that’s ok. It’s how you make sure your books are readable.

    Wow.I’ll read it lol

  • Tanzie

Can you guys be even more negative? eh I don’t care if she did write or not. You guys act like it’s end of the world. It sounds pretty good, but then again everyone’s entitled to their opinions. But the book sounds fun.

As long as it doesn’t involve vampires…

  • dustin

I think it’s amazing how all of you morons bashing Hilary Duff’s writing ability haven’t even read her book yet, but are going off about how her writing is rubbish. Grow up, people. If you have never read her writing, then you can’t say anything good or bad about it. So shut up and wait to read the book, THEN bash it if you think it’s bad.
