We read (and watched) Sarah Palin so you don't have to

In her new book — and ubiquitous press appearances — Sarah Palin sounds off on everything from caribou to Katie Couric. Here’s what she had to say:

On John McCain asking her to be his running mate:

“I’d known it was only a matter of time before others saw Alaska’s potential to contribute to America’s future. Now the time was right.”

On Katie Couric:

“Where do I begin?” Palin muses of the infamous 2008 sit-down with the CBS anchor. “In the harried pace of the campaign, I mistakenly let myself become annoyed…with many of her repetitive, biased questions.” (Couric tells EW “the interview speaks for itself.”)

On SNL:

“[Amy Poehler] was very pregnant,” Palin recalls of her campaign stop on NBC’s Saturday Night Live. “She and [my daughter] Bristol compared belly sizes…. Very nice of Amy, I thought. Very down to earth.” She adds, “Josh Brolin, Mark Wahlberg, and the singer Adele were also on the show that night, as was director Oliver Stone, who made a cameo appearance. Unbelievably, he is a supporter of Communist dictator Hugo Chavez, who in a 2006 speech to the United Nations referred to the president of the United States as ‘the devil himself.’ I did not shake Stone’s hand.”

On meeting her husband, Todd:

Love at first sight? Not exactly. “He cussed. He chewed. He didn’t go to church,” the former Alaskan governor writes of her husband of 21 years. “But when he told me he had become a Christian…that was the clincher for me.”

On her diet:

“I especially love moose and caribou. I always remind people…that there’s plenty of room for all Alaska’s animals — right next to the mashed potatoes.”

On evolution:

During McCain’s vetting process, Palin says she made her opinions on evolution clear. “I [don't] believe in the theory that human beings — thinking, loving beings — originated from fish that sprouted legs and crawled out of the sea. Or that human beings began as single-celled organisms that developed into monkeys who eventually swung down from the trees.”

On her qualifications to be vice president:

“After a decade and a half in public office, including serving as a city manager and mayor, I  had more administrative experience than either Obama or Biden.”

On her future plans:

I’ve been asked a lot lately, ‘Where are you going?’ Good question! I’ll be heading home to Alaska, of course. Back to that kitchen table. We’ll discuss the day’s news and the next stop. I always tell my kids that God doesn’t drive parked cars, so we’ll talk about getting on the next road and hearing up for hard work to travel down it to reach new goals.”

On Levi Johnston:

Palin never mentions her daughter’s baby-daddy in the book, but she did call his upcoming Playgirl pictoral “porn” during her Nov. 16 chat with Oprah. Speaking of Johnston’s johnson, the first of the (non-full-frontal) shots hit Playgirl.com on Nov. 21. They’ll be on newsstands in March 2010,when the magazine — which folded last fall — is scheduled to relaunch.

How is asking what magazine Palin reads a bias question? Even if Palin doesn’t read, at least be smart enough to lie and come up with a name like Time Magazine.

    • Devin

Why lie? If you don’t read any, say you don’t read any. If you’re going to lie about things that don’t matter then your going to lie when it does matter. I respect a person who doesn’t lie, even if it means you will be critisezed.

    • wwrd

Saying you read Time magazine is like telling the world you are an idiot.

      • NicWin

I agree that she didn’t handle the interview very well, and should have been better prepared…but it is possible that she didn’t want to name check any particular magazine or paper. For many reasons.

      • Katie G

being unable to recall the name of ONE magazine IS telling the world you are an idiot. There are non-biased newspapers (hello the Herald Tribune)

  • Wes

Silly, if Palin can’t answer the questions, that means they’re biased. Questions that can be answered “You betcha!” or “Because of the media elite!” or “We’re mavericks!” are fair and balanced questions.

    • Mr. Conservative

No, the questions are biased if they are delivered by an idiot reporter seeking to further her own political inclination.
Please, until you’ve run for VP or even held some form of public office, you have no right to call Sarah an idiot.
It’s like high school dropouts calling Harvard-educated Bush stupid.

      • Trevor

FYI – Bush graduated from Yale, not Harvard. Might want to get that sort of thing straight.

      • Sally

FYI He graduated from Harvard Business School. Might want to get that sort of thing straight.

  • davey

As a Canadian…Im just so happy that she doesn’t live in my Country :)

    • amny

As an American..I’m just so happy that You still live in your country.:o)

      • Sam Y.

As a dual American-Canadian citizen, I really wish Palin lived in — I don’t know, any other country. Albania, Lichtenstein, Hades.

    • amny

      dual citizen?LMAO! what a tool

    • Don M.

A a card carrying 912 American Veteran I am extremely happy you don’t live in the USA ! Though I do love most Canadiens especially my special friends from the Maritime Provinces.

  • Kim

Why can’t there be room for all Alaska’s wildlife in the wild instead of on your dinner plate.

    • Maddi

      This!

  • Jim

Nice headline: We’ve read ( and watched ) so you don’t have to.

In other words, why bother readers, we’ve decided what is important and what you need to know.

Why bother watching Lost or 60 Minutes, or reading Obama’s books… We’ve got all you morons covered.

    Or is it bias ?

    • Luddite

They said the same thing about Jodie Sweeten’s book. Maybe it’s bias against MEMOIRS. Gasp! Conspiracy!

  • dwcnal

And we are suppose not to listen or read the book because you have. PLEASE who believes the liberal media these days….fools.
The negative comments say it all…. fools.

  • FIghtTheSmears

My, my…you’re green with envy aren’t you, Ms. Tina? Probably because Palin has a real life, and you’re stuck in your cubicle writing snarky op-ed pieces. And Palin is laughing all the way to the bank.

    • BlackIrish4094

Yeah, Palin has a real life. A really ignorant, hypocritical, condesecending life. I guess you think the liberal elite is what causes your comment to look so ignorant also?

      • Don M.

How would u know when u can’t express yourself in the English Language form !!!

    • Arden

Yeah, because anyone who doesn’t like Sarah Palin is jealous of her.

      Not very bright, are you?

    • Allie

Smears – You need to check your definition of what makes an op-ed. Pretty sure quotations with some transitions doesn’t cut it.

  • Carl

I’ll read her book, so I don’t have to read your drivel! I’ve already bought my copy; obviously you have also.

  • Ron

It is amusing to watch the libs squirm at someone like Palin. The ones that squirm at least are somewhat in the know. The other “so-called” libs get all their news from “other libs”, who in turn, keep on top of current events by watching TV comedy shows (CNN, NBC..etc). Unfortunately, some of our neighbors to the north only watch one TV program, “Hockey Night in Canada”, but get bored because Foster Hewitt isn’t the broadcaster.

    • Katie G

      wow
How big of an idiot are you? As a neighbour of yours to the north who doesn’t, ever, watch Hockey Night in Canada – at least no one in Canada is as completly and utterly stupid as Sarah Palin.

  • LoveMeSomeBiden

Hey dumbasses- this is a regular feature on ew.com. Try not to take it so personally…

  • Wes

“Liberal media”. We’re still trotting that one out? Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Fox News, Michelle Malkin, Ann Coulter, Mark Levin, Bill O’Reilly…what media are they part of, pray tell? It sure isn’t liberal.

    • amny

eh..take a look at the names you ‘trotted’ out in your comment.Glenn,Rush,Sean,Michelle,Ann,Mark and Bill are part of TWO…yep..just two national media outlets.Fox news and Wabc radio. Two is all.Would you at least admit that there is more ‘left-wing’ media outlets than there are ‘right-wing’? When will you admit that ..msnbc,cnn,ABC,NBC,CBS,HBO,NYTIMES,NYDailyNews,Newsday,Newsweek,PeopleMag.,Oprah,SaturdayNightLive,HOLLYWEIRD…
      Now..who’s ‘trotting’ out a bias..pray tell

    • dd

Liberal media is NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, CNN, Time, Newsweek, New York Times, Hollywood etc.

      • amny

couldn’t have said it better myself..lol

  • zorg

Palin herself is not what’s interesting. She’s just trying to make off McCain’s blunder in catapulting her to fame. That’s understandable. What’s weird is that her followers, without exception, say that everyone else “fears” her. Where do they get that? Why do they ALL seem to say that? Lemmings?

    • Freedom Rocks

      Because it’s true.

      • Liberal Media is a Myth

The same way people are “afraid” when a toddler picks up a loaded AK-47 and starts waving it around?

  • Ember

These snippets from Palin’s book just make me want to read it more! I love her moose & caribou comment!

  • darth caifan

But she believes that we were all created by an invisible man… yeah, sounds logical

  • P. Williams

Sarah Palin is such a “nothing” person. It is beyond belief that this one woman has been able to create massive attention to her book on “whining”! She she should be home looking after family – especially her baby!!
