Herbie Hancock memoir set for Oct. 28 release

Herbie Hancock’s memoir is scheduled to come out this fall.

Publisher Viking announced Thursday that the Grammy-winning musician’s book, titled Herbie Hancock: Possibilities, has a release date of Oct. 28. The memoir will be co-written by Lisa Dickey, who has also worked on books by Jane Lynch and Cissy Houston.

Hancock’s deal with Viking was first announced in 2012. A former member of Miles Davis’ band, the 74-year-old Hancock is known for such compositions as “Rockit” and “Cantaloupe Island.” He is one of the few jazz performers to achieve widespread success with pop audiences.

Guitar God Carlos Santana will soon join the ranks of Keith Richards, Grace Slick, Marilyn Manson…basically every rocker who’s had the wherewithal to capitalize on their legacy with a tell-all memoir, The Associated Press reports.

Santana signed an agreement with Little, Brown and Co. (the same imprint that published Keith Richards’ Life two years ago) to spill his life story in a book, due for release in 2014.

The 65-year-old musician is expected to dish on the likes of Eric Clapton and Herbie Hancock as he recounts his mammoth career.  His tale is sure to be juicy – you don’t sell 100 million records without a few gritty details.
