Are there truly always two sides to every story? New York Times best-selling author Ellen Hopkins seems to think so.

In her upcoming YA novel Tilt (out Sept. 11) Hopkins takes the interwoven lives of three mothers from her adult novel Triangles and tells their stories from another point of view: their children’s. The free verse narrative follows three teens, Mikayla, Shane, and Harley, as they navigate first loves, friendships, and their parents’ meltdowns.

For fans of Hopkins’ books, EW has the first look at Tilt! Check out the cover below: READ FULL STORY »

In a kind of reverse-adaptation, Snow White and the Huntsman, the second of two major Snow White movies this year, will be getting a novelization by Lily Blake on Apr. 17 leading into the film’s June 1 release. The book cover — a repackaged version of one of the film posters — features Kristen Stewart as a knife-wielding warrior princess who couldn’t be more different from the fluttering damsel from the 1937 Disney film or the wide-eyed ingenue from the upcoming Lily Collins-starrer Mirror, Mirror. Gleeks already know that Chris Colfer can take us to magical places with his voice, and now he’s using words and pictures to create a fantasy world in his upcoming children’s book The Land of Stories, illustrated by Brandon Dorman. Kurt fans who’ve been anxiously awaiting the book, originally slated for an Aug. 7 release, won’t have to wait as long as they’d thought. A rep for Little Brown said, “Chris’s writing talents, his efficiency with deadlines, and the eagerness from his fans has all combined to allow us to move the date up to July 17th!”

Described as a “modern-day fairy tale,” the book will focus on twins Alex and Conner, who leave the real world behind and find themselves in a land where they come face-to-face with the fairy-tale characters — witches, goblins, trolls — they’ve always read about. Colfer says the book’s illustrator “made every detail come to life. He went above and beyond the crayon and colored pencil drawings I used to make of it as a kid.” Check out the very first peek at the cover of The Land of Stories below!

Jodi Picoult has created plenty of memorable young characters throughout her writing career, but Between the Lines (out June 26) will be her first book geared for teens, and her first co-authored by daughter Samantha van Leer. Melding ordinary life with fantasy, the novel will center on Delilah, a teenage bookworm who can’t get enough of one book in particular. Cupcakes-Cookies-Pie-Oh-My

Even though their forthcoming book Cupcakes, Cookies, & Pie, Oh, My! extends their special creative style to all types of desserts, Karen Tack and Alan Richardson still refer to their practice as the catch-all “cupcaking.”

“We just decided to take the whole decorative approach and put it on everything,” Richardson said during a hands-on demo in New York City on Thursday.

The new book — third in the 20-year-strong duo’s sweet-tooth series that includes the bestselling Hello, Cupcake and What’s New, Cupcake? — won’t hit shelves until January, but many of the new creations were on display Thursday. Richardson seemed particularly excited about READ FULL STORY »

'Diary of a Wimpy Kid' author Jeff Kinney on new book 'Cabin Fever' and the series' future

diary_wimpy_kid

UPDATE: Read our review of Cabin Fever.

Cabin Fever, the highly anticipated sixth installment of the Diary of the Wimpy Kid series, will get a monster first-run release of six million copies on Nov. 15, the largest of any book in the series. Series creator and author Jeff Kinney spoke to EW about the new book and Greg Heffley’s future — apparently love and death are on the horizon.

Tell me a bit more about the concept behind the sixth book.
On the surface, Cabin Fever is about the Heffley being family being snowed in for the holidays and the claustrophobia that creates, but it works as a theme as well. The idea behind the book is that as you’re growing up you’re forging your identity, and that identity becomes hard to escape later on. I find that no matter what I do in my professional life, if I go back home, the people I grew up with and the people in my family and the people who know me bring me back to my true self. Part of the book is about the claustrophobia of your identity — it’s hard to forge a new one. READ FULL STORY »

Steve-O from 'Jackass' has written a book. In ink, no less! Check out the cover.

Professional-Idiot_

Great memoirs often come from people who have experienced a lot of pain in their lives, which is why I expect Steve-O’s to be nothing less than brilliant. I’m hoping for something on the level of Mary Karr or Jeannette Walls, but with more exploding port-o-potties and fart machines. The book, which hits stores on June 7, is going to be called Professional Idiot and “recounts Steve-O’s glory days, drug addiction, and his path of recovery and redemption—all while maintaining the bravado and humor for which he is famous.” While I’m pretty sure that actually isn’t what he’s famous for, you have to at least be somewhat interested in the story of a man who can describe being kicked in the testicles repeatedly as “glory days.”

'The Passage' paperback cover and an exclusive excerpt from Justin Cronin's sequel

the-passageFans of Justin Cronin’s Twilight-plus-The Stand-plus-awesomely violent vampires-minus-Twilight novel The Passage rejoice: We have a double-dose of those limbs-ripping, telepathic bloodsuckers for you. First, there’s the cover for the upcoming paperback edition, which will be especially helpful for those of you who didn’t have the arm-strength to take the nearly 800-page tome along to the beach last year. As you can see, the paperback trades in the hardcover’s creepy darkened woods for something brighter and a bit more…AHH! There’s a face!! Sorry, I didn’t see that at first.

We also have an exclusive excerpt from Cronin’s in-the-works sequel The Twelve, set to release sometime in 2012. Check it out below, and for those whose curiosity is piqued by this Passage passage, a larger extract will be included in the paperback, which hits stores on May 17.

molly-shannon-bookImage Credit: Jeff Christensen/AP ImagesSNL favorite and mom of two Molly Shannon is bringing her zany, good-natured comic sensibility to her new children’s book, Tilly the Trickster (Abrams), which will be published in September 2011. Tilly is a “strong little spicy character,” in Shannon’s words, and an “imperfectly perfect role model.” We caught up with Shannon to find out how her childhood (filled with mischief and hijinks) and being a parent to her own children inspired her to write this book.
