Alanis Morissette, take note: This is ironic.

Bill Hillman, who co-authored the book How to Survive the Bulls of Pamplona, was gored in the right leg during the annual Running of the Bulls in the Spanish city on Wednesday. The bull’s horn missed slicing through a bone or major artery, and Hillman suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries, NBC News Chicago reports.

Hillman co-wrote his book with John Hemingway, the grandson of Ernest Hemingway, who described the event in his famous 1926 novel The Sun Also Rises. The section of the book that Hillman wrote is a detailed guide through each stage of the 930-yard course—including a advice on what to when a bull goes “suelto,” separates from the back, and “sees all runners as predators.” That’s exactly what happened on Wednesday.

Though goring accidents are common, few result in life-threatening injuries. The last fatal accident took place five years ago, according to The New York Times.
