A long time ago, Superboy and Superman were the same Super-person at different stages of their life. But in the young hero’s current incarnation, he’s his own person — a creature bred in a laboratory, half-human and half-Kryptonian. In next week’s Superboy #3, the kid gets trapped in his own private remake of The Core, falling precipitously into the molten lava beneath the surface of the Earth. The issue also kicks off with a mysterious couple robbing a convenience store in the most elaborately homicidal method possible.

You can read the full issue when it hits stores Nov. 9. For now, check out EW’s full sneak peek here.

File under: Two people you never expected to say in the same sentence. But with the devastating news that Kim Kardashian has decided to end her marriage after just 72 days, even esteemed author Salman Rushdie had to weigh in on the controversy — on Twitter.

Yesterday, Rushdie tweeted (in three parts!) “1. The marriage of poor kim #kardashian was krushed like a kar in a krashian” “2. her kris kried, not fair! why kan’t I keep my share?” “3. But kardashian fell klean outa fashian.”

The never-to-be-repeated limerick seemed to have come about as a challenge to Rushdie from a follower. Well played, Internet.

Readers: Is this the funniest thing to come out of the Kardashian news?

'Star Wars: The Old Republic -- Revan': Exclusive excerpt from the long-awaited 'KOTOR' follow-up

Star-Wars-Revan

Another chapter of Star Wars’ ancient history is about to be revealed. Drew Karpyshyn’s novel Star Wars: The Old Republic — Revan, due Nov. 15, is the long-awaited follow-up to the 2003 videogame Knights of the Old Republic.

Fans of KOTOR know that it’s one of the best stories ever set in that galaxy far, far away, with a midway twist worthy of “I am your father.” (Spoilers from here on out for those who haven’t played the game. But, seriously, play it!) Almost 4,000 years before the events of the movies, a rogue Jedi Knight named Revan and his apprentice Malak turned to the Dark Side following a war against the Mandalorians, when Boba Fett’s warrior ancestors tried to conquer the Republic. As Sith Lords, Darth Revan and Darth Malak decided they also wanted the Republic as their prize. But, as often happens, apprentice turned against master, and Revan was thought to have died at Malak’s hand. When playing KOTOR, you’re just an anonymous Republic soldier fighting Malak’s forces alongside a ragtag group of companions (sound familiar?) until it’s revealed that — gasp — you’re Darth Revan and you were rescued by a Jedi strike team after Malak’s betrayal! They wiped your memory in the hope that you could help the Republic turn back the chaos you yourself had unleashed, and, like the original Star Wars trilogy, the game becomes a poignant study in redemption and forgiveness.

Star Wars: The Old Republic — Revan picks up two years after Malak’s defeat, when the redeemed Revan is still trying to pick up the pieces of his old life and figure out what exactly made him turn to the Dark Side. All fans have known about Revan’s post-KOTOR life is that he took off for the Unknown Regions on the hunt for a dark threat to the Republic… and was never heard from again. Now his fate is about to be revealed, and EW’s got an exclusive excerpt from the novel, in which Revan meets in a seedy underworld cantina with one of his KOTOR companions, the Mandalorian mercenary Canderous Ordo, to discuss sinister visions he’s been having of a storm-covered planet crackling with Dark Side energy. Read the excerpt after the break. READ FULL STORY »

'Steve Jobs' biography sells 382,851 physical copies

Walter Isaacson’s 656-page biography of Apple founder Steve Jobs didn’t quite have customers lining up around the block like the latest iPhone did, but the tome, which has sold 382,851 physical copies to date according to BookScan, is a bona fide blockbuster in its own right. Steve Jobs: The Exclusive Biography, priced at $35, posted the biggest first-week sales of any book since Nov. 13 of last year, when Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth and George W. Bush’s Decision Points both sold more than 430,000 copies in the opening week.

Even though it’s been on sale for just six days, Isaacson’s biography is already the 18th biggest selling book of the year in the U.S. It outsold the No. 2 book of the week, John Grisham’s The Litigators three to one, and it outsold the No. 2 non-fiction book, Bill O’Reilly’s Killing Lincoln, by almost eight to one. In the U.K., Steve Jobs became one of the fastest-selling books of all time by selling 37,000 copies in five days.

The BookScan figures don’t include digital sales, but it’s safe to say that they’d either match or likely top the physical sales, especially considering the subject of the book — many readers undoubtedly wanted to read it on their iPads. Further, Amazon reps hinted that Steve Jobs was on track to becoming its biggest seller of 2011.

Mindy Kaling: An in-depth interview about her book, childhood, shoes, and homemade sashimi

kaling

When I spoke to Mindy Kaling last month about Is Everyone Hanging Out without Me?, her book of funny insights (available today!), it really felt like chatting with a good friend. Reading the book itself actually feels the same way. Kaling talks about her life up until now — an awkward childhood, penniless years in New York, her enviable job on The Office — all in her smart, honest, naturally humorous tone. While way more intelligent and lovely than her Office character Kelly Kapoor, Kaling was similarly talkative with me — check out how long this interview is! We delved into some of the specifics of her book, so I’ll throw up a SPOILER ALERT in case you want to come back after you finish Is Everyone Hanging Out without Me?.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: You’re incredibly popular among my group of friends. I just want to tell you that you really resonate with 20-somethings. But who do you think is your audience? READ FULL STORY »

Kris Jenner shares details on her relationship with Nicole Brown Simpson in new memoir

kris-jenner

Kris Jenner can now add author to her resume. The famous “momager” releases her memoir, Kris Jenner…and all things Kardashian, today. It’s no secret that the Kardashian family and their respective empire holds the No. 1 place on my personal guilty pleasures list. I’ve read the books, watched the weddings, and even followed on Twitter. So I gladly headed up the task of reading Kris’ memoir so you don’t have to.

Even as a fan, I was pleasantly surprised with how entertaining the book was. And I attribute that mostly to Kris’ take on the “Trial of the Century.” If you’re at all familiar with the Kardashian past, you know that their family was very close to both Nicole Brown Simpson and O.J. Simpson. So after Nicole was murdered, Kris’ family was split down the middle. Kris was (and is) convinced of O.J.’s guilt, and her ex-husband, Robert Kardashian, took part in the “dream team” of lawyers that defended O.J. during his murder trial. I’ve since decided, Kris’ book should have been titled, Kris Jenner…and all things Kardashian: The Nicole Brown Simpson Story. Chapters 3 through 10 focus a lot on her relationships with the Simpsons, the murder, and the subsequent trial. And Kardashian fan or not, anyone interested in that case would find the memoir interesting. The last few chapters pretty much summed up what I already learned from E! Network’s True Hollywood Story on the family, but the beginning of Kris’ life compounded with the many personal details of Nicole Brown Simpson kept me hooked. I read it so you don’t have to, but maybe, just maybe, you might want to.

So without further ado, here are the highlights from Kris Jenner, beginning with the juicy details surrounding her relationship with Nicole Brown Simpson and O.J. Simpson: READ FULL STORY »
