++ Parks and Recreation showrunner Michael Schur, a David Foster Wallace fan, based the “Calamity Song” video he directed for the Decemberists on Wallace’s seminal novel Infinite Jest. Let the tennis balls fly!
++ Self-published author John Locke, not to be confused with the 17th century philosopher or a Smoke Monster, has entered an exclusive deal with Simon & Schuster to handle the distribution of physical copies of his books. Locke’s Donovan Creed novels, which have sold more than a million digital copies, will be available in traditional bookstores starting February 2012.
++ President Obama may not have much time to read, but at least he has good taste. He stopped at the independent bookstore Bunch of Grapes in Martha’s Vineyard on Friday, picking up Ward Just’s Chicago-set novel Rodin’s Debutante and The Bayou Trilogy by Daniel Woodrell, author of Winter’s Bone.

He picked up nothing on how to get our country out of the gutter I see. Maybe something like “How to Blame everyone’s policies but yours” or “If all else fails Blame Bush”. I just wish I could have been President after Bush if all you have to do is blame someone else I’d make just as good Commander in Chief as Obama.
What an idiotic comment.
Would expect nothing less from your kind.
My kind? And what “kind” is that? You know absolutely nothing about me.
Question: who caused the deficit? Who caused the recession? But Obama has a magical button that will fix the economy, so perhaps it is his fault.
Maybe it’s “My no good terrible summer of trying to deal with Tea Party Lunatics trying to destroy the country for their ideology”
Although, the title may be a bit long.
At least Obama has a scapegoat for his failures. He can be thankful for that.
May I suggest “Economics for Dummies” and “Step by Step: A Guide to the Presidency”?
Amen!
Or perhaps, “The Hypocrisy of Shills who Pretend their Policies that Created an Economic Catastrophe are Not Responsible, are the Solutions and then Claim Credit for All My Other Success Like Killing Bin Laden.”
Not a very good title, but very fitting.
Fahreed Zakari recommends a book every week. Great idea to get those.
At least Obama can read. Can’t say that any of his opponents can or would.
And people wonder why there is so much nastiness in DC. You either love him or hate him. I personally am very ambiguous about him but dang the man does need some “him” time and if he wants to read a book, leave him the hell alone.
That’s the problem Kelly. He already has too much “him” time. He needs to stay in Washington and get this country back on track.
I have one question. How does he have time to read anything when the country is falling down around us?
I’m so grateful to finally have a president who CAN read.
Why do you think Laura Bush was so concerned about literacy?
I do think it’s important to note the defierfnces in the comics at this point as you indicate, Bill. While the comics were violent, they were somewhat less violent than they started out, especially DC, and they were cartoonish in their violence as compared to the realism that was often featured in the EC horror mags.I am less confident about a lot of modern comics being good for kids.
I sleep. then I panic when I wake up.Oh and I have to ask re: your SUPER FANTASTICA COMIX submission I\’ve pbbaroly seen or read it five times already, but I just noticed yesterday is that Jimmy on page 2?

Great article. I can¡¯t wait to hear more about your research tool. If it is as good as your other products, then you will have another winner. Your article pretty much summed up what I have been seeing too. Great to see some hard data.
