Very rarely does something come along this spooky.
The Quirk Books trailer for Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (on sale June 7) could just as easily serve as the teaser trailer for a film, and indeed the novel has already sold its film rights to 20th Century Fox.
See the trailer after the jump …
Author Ransom Riggs was inspired to craft this tale by various old, found photographs of children in uncanny situations — hovering slightly in the air, or standing alone by a pond with a dual reflection in the water. Read some excerpts...
It almost sounds like a superhero collective (think turn-of-the-last-century X-Men) fused with Harry Potter’ Hogwarts, only far creepier and mysterious than either. Riggs is a filmmaker and devised the trailer himself, flying to Belgium to shoot in various abandoned homes, according to the publisher. (I guess Belgium has the best haunted-looking houses?)
You can’t argue with the result. Prepare to have the hair on your arms stand up.
Tell EW’s Anthony Breznican what you think on Twitter: @Breznican.

woah kinda disapointed this isn’t a real movie. they never make good ghost stories anymore
the movie rights have been sold to warner brothers
sorry i meant 20 century fox
Looks great, what an add for a creepy children’s storybook.
ummmm creepy
Take out the word “with” in the first sentence Mr. Breznican
My bad. Typo. (Hangs head in shame.)
I’m not trying to be that kind of person but, I didn’t find it that creepy. It was a cool trailer though thanks for highlighting it.
Yeah, unfortunately, I have to agree. I think the preceding article talked it up a little too much. It does seem like an interesting book though.
I concur. Too hyped in the article. Plus, I’m just not down with video teasers for books.
Not creepy. You want creepy, write a book based on all those old photos of corpses posed to look alive. That’d keep me up at night.
Oh my god I’ve looked at some of those. They are so creepy. Dead children posed with their siblings. Ugh.
It’s a little bit creepy especially for just a trailer , but i’d try The Orphanage, That’s creepy.
just watched that last night and it was sooo creepy
I watched that movie for Spanish class and it TERRIFIED me.
A trailer for a book? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a trailer for a book. But good strategy. It looks intriguing.
It’s done quite often. “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter” and “Anathem” are two that come to mind immediately. I hate them.
It’s done very often. Just most of them aren’t worth mentioning.
where is professor xavier?
His name is Miss Peregrine in this.
I would suggest that it SOUNDS like X-Men, like you said. I get nothing Hogwarty from the description. That comes solely from the music in the trailer. Th ebook itself sounds good, but I tend to be turned off by overambitious marketing when it comes to books.
Power Pack!
Oooh looks so creepy!
Brez . ..
Did you get an Advance Reader for this title?
is this based on a true story?
started reading it last night
