The third book in Richard Castle’s Nikki Heat series hits shelves (for real) in September, and EW has obtained a plot description from Hyperion, which has already published two New York Times best-sellers from the crime novelist Nathan Fillion plays on ABC’s Castle, Heat Wave and Naked Heat.
The bizarre murder of a parish priest at a New York bondage club is just the tip of an iceberg that leads Nikki Heat to a dark conspiracy that reaches all the way to the highest level of the NYPD. But when she gets too close to the truth, Nikki finds herself disgraced, stripped of her badge, and out on her own as a target for killers with nobody she can trust. Except maybe the one man in her life who’s not a cop. Reporter Jameson Rook.
In the midst of New York’s coldest winter in a hundred years, there’s one thing Nikki is determined to prove. Heat Rises.
Sounds like Castle did some research during episode 216, “The Mistress Always Spanks Twice.”

It just now occurred to me that a rook is the piece that is shaped like a castle in chess. I’ve read the other two books and never caught that. Huh.
Woah, good catch!
Sounds interesting. The best part of reading the Nikki Heat novels is looking for stuff from Castle. I wonder what will be in this one.
Isn’t this the plot of the season finale?
Sounds Fantastic!
This sounds awesome! The books have been great fun! I wish we didn’t have to wait until September. It would be great if they released them during the summer when we don’t have the show.
Heat Wave was good, Naked Heat was great and this one sounds fantastic! I love the Nikki Heat books because they are just so much fun!
Interesting plot. Now, it makes me even more anxious to see the S3 finale.
Thanks for sharing this, Mandi!
Thanks for the news! Looking forward to this installment. The Heat books have only gotten better and are a fantastic tie-in to the show.
Everyone knows who wrote these books? Who is R.C.?
It is rumored to be one of the shows writers.
I thought the books were kind of co-written by Castle’s poker pals?
from season 3 eedsoips), but also the mood. Which means, this book wasn’t as fun as either Heat Wave or Naked Heat. Not to say that there weren’t fun moments (like the passing Firefly reference)
Mostly likely a writer, Tom Straw. Richard Castle is a recipient of the Tom Straw Award.
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Loved the first two.
This one sounds great too.
Will it be in Spanish?

Cant wait! (Though it really REALLY would’ve been great to have this and the graphic novel during hiatus.)
I’ve enjoyed both books with Nikki Heat and am looking forward to Heat Rises.
What is this forum? Do you have to gush over the books in order to be able to register here? Look, Castle is great, and the I love looking for references from the show in the books, but that’s IT. You cannot seriously tell me these books are GOOD, they’re OKAY. If a real world writer wrote these books, they would NOT be super famous, they would be OKAY. And no matter how ruggedly handsome the writer was, he would NOT be THAT famous, or that well connected. I mean, come on!
