Maybe some techno-thrillerss (it was EW that turned me on to Daemon by Danile Suarez) and mysteries too?

Also, Ambivalentman and Jeff from Jersey; yes new Jersey are both exactly right.

Thanks, Don for letting me know what happened in the QL episode about the Kennedy assasination. When I saw the preview on it during it*s first run, I had to turn it off. For some of us who lived through the assasination, the idea of Sam jumping into Oswald*s life was not right.

    Welcome news,Stevie!

I’m working on an poem in iambic pentameter where JFK tours the Area 51 spaceship, accidentally gets stuck in it and flips the wrong switch, rocketing him forward in time, where he runs for president for his second term in 2000 with Vice President Barack Obama and thwarts the 9/11 terrorist attack and corrects the mortgage lending debacle befoe being assassinated by a deranged radio broadcaster from Connecticutt named Glenn Beck. It’s just a 2,000-page treatment now, but once I get the bugs ironed out it’s gonna be awesome!

    Regarding the Grammar War:

This page is discussing the release of a new novel (and one whose plot I find intriguing). It is not wrong for those who read to have a respect for the English language, nor is it wrong to offer amelioration when one happens on others who display scant regard for it.

Is “prolly” an expression of vernacular? Sure. It is also, when applied to a writing forum, a sign of sloppiness.

Is it not better for one to write with clarity and reverence for language (especially when the subject being discussed is a novel, which is comprised of language and grammar)? One would certainly think so.

However, attacking one who uses poor grammer (i.e., “prolly” instead of “probably”; “weather” instead of “whether”) by resorting to calling him names (“douchebag” or, as the one offended wrote: “douchbag”), the one offering correction invalidates his own response.

It is possible to learn how to write (and speak) better. All that is required is some education (there are many books around that teach one this). But there must also be some compassion involved if he or she who is not respecting language as he or she should is expected to think seriously about it.

In addition to educating oneself in writing better, one may also educate him- or herself in the practice of common courtesy.

In my previous post, I offered a misspelling – for those who would like to get to work on learning how to write – and express themselves – better.

So first the Simpsons movie, now he’s re-doing “Replay” by Ken Grimwood? (Okay, okay, there are some obvious differences, but… man.)

I like Stephen King, but only a white male would want to go back to
1963 and he would have the Viet Nam draft coming up. Maybe if he could save JFK we would have had the Camelot everybody envisioned, but as much as I liked JFK and loved RFK, doubt things would be as rosy as we think.

He actually talked about this in the introduction to “The Dark Tower” comic series collections, so I’m looking forward to this.

Of course, that same intro had him totally giving away the big twist of the plot, so sort of ruins my anticipation of the book.

Stephen King’s website (www.stephenking.com)just posted details about the new Dark Tower book, The Wind Through the Keyhole. It’s finished, should be published sometime in 2012. Takes place between Wizard and Glass and Wolves of the Calla. Cannot wait!

Let me guess, the librarian gets shot by Oswald and so he resets history so JFK gets shot and she lives, although he can’t be with her.

    You heard it here first!

Look, I love King’s works. I even did my MA thesis on the initial four Dark Tower books. Post-accident SK works, however, have been a decidedly mixed bag. His longer works tend to have strong starts, but near or after the halfway point deteriorate to the point of being farcical. “Under the Dome” turned into a sprawling mess with the most ridiculous revelation he has ever come up with. (Can that “Family Guy” joke about his next book involving a family tormented by an evil lamp monster be far behind?) On the other hand, his shorter works, novellas, and stories remain gripping and intense. “Cell” is a terrifying take on zombie lore, and is one of his best novels. So I pray that this next 1000+ page epic with a very sensitive historical tragedy at its core does not turn into a messy fiasco as per the final 3 Dark Tower books. (Sorry, Mr. K., but incorporating yourself as a major character in your major opus was a bad idea.) We shall see. Time is on my side.
