I think her family and friends are the only ones who would be interested in knowing this. Most people don’t even know who she is.
The facts of life wasn’t funny to begin with.
You can’t blame her for the sensitivties the writers had regarding the disabled in that era.
She was outstanding on Deadwood! Good for her.
Life has become like the scene in the movie In and Out, with Kevin Klein, at the end when everyone starts to stand up and say “I’M GAY”. LOL
Hell! let’s all come out so no more children can be born!!
Did someone hear a sound? Almost like a void making itself heard!
Actually the issue with her on being on Facts of Life was that her sense of humour was not appropriate. I had seen her live and she was quite, well crude is not the right word particularly within the context of this generation’s sense of humour. But she was quite funny, and relevant.
As for the homosexual issue, back then it would’ve been an issue and interesting to see how she dealt with it. Careers were boycotted by sponsors. Today, I don’t think seriously there is an issue. Politicians and artists come out all the time and there is no impact (and by the way a trend means something that has a life for a limited period of time, so I don’t think that the wording such as that gay thing is a Hollywood trend is correct. Perhaps coming out publicly is, but not being gay). Anyway, in summary, she was funny; she faced challenges for handicap and sexual-orientation; more recent outings not controversial.
The point is that Geri Jewell overcame a lot of difficult obstacles and still had some reasonable success in life. Most of us have done a fraction of what she has done with a lot more advantages in our hands.
I normally don’t post on sites like this, since so many love “a-nonymity” and can soound like mo-rons. I dated Geri back in the 80′s for about a year before she broke things off, and I found her to be very intelligent, and not egotistical or stuck up like many in Hollywood I meet. I’m a member of SAG, so I meet my share, and Geri’s not that type. The sexual-ity part is important when people need something to blow out of pro-portion. I didn’t know she was a lesbian back then, and it took me over 20 years to find out, and I still don’t care. It’s like in the military. You don’t think gays existed during WW2? Yea right! Why should anyone care now? Geri was a class act then and she still is, and I haven’t seen her in over 20 years. I just sent her an e-mail and she called which I didn’t think she would. She still sounds the same. Fantastic. I know she mentioned me in a book she wrote in the 80′s, but I don’t know if I’m in this one. Before you rant about someone they know nothing about, get your facts right. I realized she broke things off due to her sexual desires, and not my education. I have more than than she does. I thought it was jealous-ly. Well, she’s doing better than I am. She said on the phone, “Don’t pay attention to the people on the internet”. I said it bothered me how malicious people can be when they’re anonymous. They come off like uneducated fools.
