Aliens walk among us, and now they’re writing young adult fiction. Shelf Life has the exclusive trailer for the highly anticipated upcoming YA novel I Am Number Four, the first in a series of books about a teenage alien (one of nine on Earth) on the run for his life from malicious forces. I Am Number Four was written by Pittacus Lore, an Elder alien from the planet Lorien who managed to secure a six-book deal with HarperCollins. (It should be noted that Lore is thought to be the extraterrestrial nom de plume of authors James Frey and Jobie Hughes.) Amazingly, a movie adaptation is already in the works, produced by none other than Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg. Take a gander at the “Truth is out there” book trailer below, filled with mysterious lights and crop circles, and let us know what you think.

It is an AWESOME book. I stayed up all night to finish it and could, almost literally, not put it down!
Who does book trailers? That’s just weird. Anyway, this movie is filming in Pittsburgh, where I live, so despite the weird trailer it sounds kind of awesome!
I think it’s an interesting way to attract attention, especially to younger fans, but the only issue is if it shows something that could spoil the “mind’s eye view” of the story. I didn’t really catch anything in the trailer, except that apparently # 4 is a white dude.

I read the book. It is fantastic. I can’t wait for more books and the movie.
As a teacher, I love anything that gets kids to pick up a book. I just wonder how you write a book, sign to a series and sell the film rights to Spielberg/Bay – all in one move.
Question though – seems as if the evil force is killing these aliens in order. Will Number 4 die and be replaced by narrator Number 5?
Isn’t the narrator the one writing the books, that Patticus Lore? Which is why he sounds 40 and can continue to write the other 5 upcoming books?

This has to be one of the worst pieces of marketing I’ve ever seen for something of this supposed caliber. It sounds like an Amway commercial crossed with “Dianetics.”
I think this trailer is pretty awesome! Makes me want to get this book.
I’m actually turned off by this book trailer. The alien is supposed to be a teenager yet he sounds 40 when he’s narrating the trailer?
Did this book just come out or something?..because there filiming the movie right now, with a schedule release date of Feb. 18 2011 (Starring Timothy Olyphant,Teresa Palmer, Dianna Agron (Glee)

I thought that the book came out already but i’m happy that Timothy Olyphant is in the film yum yum- he can be my protector any day !!!
