For the 700th issue of Batman, on sale today, writer Grant Morrison declines to go for a huge, all-encompassing new history of the character, or for a game-changing redefining of the Caped Crusader. Instead, he’s written an enthralling three-part mystery for Batman (and you) to solve. Entitled “Time and The Batman,” it carries the subtitle, “One Impossible Crime: Can You Crack the Case?”
Of course, Morrison being the prolix, playful Morrison he is, the author plays with time, dividing the tale into three parts, with three different Batmen from three different time periods: the Bruce Wayne Batman in the opening chapter, “Yesterday”; the Dick Grayson Batman in “Today”; and Damian Wayne’s Batman in “Tomorrow.”
First-rate artists have been enlisted, including Tony Daniel, Andy Kubert, David Finch, and (my favorite) Frank Quitely, he of the spidery line-drawings and and tight-lipped-smiling Batman. There’s one especially classic panel: After Batman beats off a throng of thugs with a pair of thin, hard sticks (bats?) pulled from his utility belt, the hero looks around at the unconscious criminals, then at the mini-clubs he holds in his hands and says to Robin, “Remind me to pack these again. Wow.”
Robin’s reply: “More of them.”
Love that. A-

I love that caption photo in the article. Classic artwork that seems to say so much in one picture.
Morrison’s Batman = crap. You’re praising Morrison’s crap = cancelation of my subscription. Please stop.
grow up
Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
Comic Critic?!? Are you late for a D&D convention or something. Your life is a waste. HAHAHAHA
Sweet – especially if that means you won’t be lurking these message boards with your inane whining drivel, I thought we talked about that after your last spanking, JP. I’m not going to keep letting you stay in basement if you are going to use your time for this instead of trying to find a job, so you can actually pay off your 2-year degree.
I agree. Morrison’s Batman is horrible and #700 is no exception. I wish this guy would leave the Batbooks and let them return to normal.
I’m so psyched about Damian Wayne’s batman!!!
I was excited too, for a second. I thought he meant Damon Wayans.
“Morrison’s Batman = crap. You’re praising Morrison’s crap = cancelation of my subscription. Please stop.”
Well, good for you.
Unfortunately for you, many other comic fans have a differing opinion. So, I’m sure DC will miss you buying their comic while many others are adding Batman to their lists.
Selina Kyle never wore that purple costume Post-Crisis, so there’s a huge mistake on Morrison’s part. See CATWOMAN YEAR TWO. She goes straight from the grey YEAR ONE outfit to the purple Jim Balent catsuit.
Also, she was never captured by police until CATWOMAN #79, volume one.
Morrison claims to respect Bat-history, but he actually poos all over it.
“After Batman BEATS OFF a throng of THUGS WITH a pair of THIN, HARD STICKS”
Umm…perhaps that could be reworded?
it’s really cool that you’re doing comic reviews now
says to Robin, “Remind me to pack these again. Wow.”
That dialogue appeals to you? Batman saying, “wow”? Terrible.
It’s Dick Grayson, not Bruce Wayne, and that is totally in characters for Dick Grayson.
Well, that’s Dick Grayson under the bat-costume…
Been collecting batman since the early 70s. …..By far my favorite…though i respect Morrisons Work im really not a big fan of it….can’t wait for oddesey! !! neal adams…..the return of a legend!
I agree Morrison´s Batman Sucks, its the biggest mistake ever and that is the real Crisis for DC.
“Selina Kyle never wore that purple costume Post-Crisis, so there’s a huge mistake on Morrison’s part”.
Rion, costume colour is a “huge mistake”, really? Don’t you think you’re mixing up respecting history with respecting, or rather, being enslaved by continuity?
Looking forward to this; fine artists to compliment a fine writer. Joyous.
NNEEEERRRRRDSSSS!!!!
Nerds rule. Deal with it.
Nerds rule. Deal with it.
Sweet, I’ll have something to read whilst in the pokey!
Ok just to clear things up, the “sticks” are like those that Dick used to use as Nightwing. Maybe the “Wow” was thrown in to show he forgot how effective they can be, as he has been playing the role of batman for a while. The Damien response of “more of them” was referring to the group of people approaching them.
Morrison, motherf**ker has nearly ruined Batman. DC should remove him if they want to save their face. Morrison sucks.
