The 1980 movie was so much better than the mini series. I think much of the criticism is due to the difference between the screenplay and the book. But if you view them as two separate works, they are both fantastic! The moldy lady in the bathtub is creepy, and so is the father’s breakdown, the cinematography is excellent, the overall feel of isolation, … it’s easy to go on. Between The Shining, The Thing, and The Changeling, 1980 was a great year for horror/thrillers.

I can’t believe someone in the comments actually said The Shining movie with Jack Nicholson was ‘terrible’.

I’m disappointed that King is finally considering a sequel to something, and it’s The Shining? For years he contemplated a sequel to his best novel, Salems’ Lot, then decided against it because “Too much time has passed.” The stuff with Father Callahan in the last 3 Dark Tower books was good, but not entirely satisfying with regard to Salems Lot.

And as much as I want Salems Lot part 2, I’d sell my left nut for a sequel to his most underrated book, Christine. That one was completely open-ended and very much in need of a follow up!

Uncle Stevie I just finished reading your evaluation of the oil spill and I must for the first time go my separate way. Harry Stamper (Bruce wiilis) is as you point out from the wrong side of the ass. All he knows how to do is drill drill drill.

We need John Wayne, Bruce Cabot, Jim Hutton & the rest of the Buckman company. They after all cap runaway oil rigs for a living. Burning oil wells. Poison gas wells. They stop them all. So how hard would a well that’s underwater be for them.

    You fan
