Lemony Snicket to publish new series

Little, Brown Books for Young Readers announced this afternoon that they will be publishing a new four-book series for teens by Lemony Snicket—his first since the phenomenally successful A Series of Unfortunate Events—as well as a YA novel from Daniel Handler, Snicket’s alter ego. “I was distressed to learn that Little Brown Books for Young Readers would also be offering the works of Lemony Snicket and have insisted that my book be published first.  No one knows better than I that his writing delves into dangerous material, and inspires a spectrum of villainous reaction. In fact, I think I hear a nefarious knocking at the door right now!” Handler said. Handler’s novel is due out in 2011; the first Snicket, in 2012.

I loved A Series of Unfortunate Events. It was my favorite book serial, and I cannot wait to see what Lemony Snicket does next!

Snicket makes me laugh, just his press releases are hilarious!

Great news! Lemony Snicket is brilliantly hysterical. I adored the Series of Unfortunate Events. Everything he writes is good for a great big laugh!

I hate Handler and his ‘alter ego’. His books are the worst YA fiction I’ve had the misfortune of reading.

      GET SERIOUS WOMAN!!

I’m happy to hear it’s only a 4 book series. I love the first 3 installments of A Series of Unfortunate Events but felt it petered out after that.

Little Brown? Hmmm… As in the same hack editors who publish Twilight?

Don’t disregard an entire publisher just because you dislike one crappy book series, otherwise you’ll never read ANY books.

I think there were strong hints that he might continue the series based on all the “unknowns” at the end of “The End.” His writing is so much fun to read aloud; you almost have to adopt an erudite accent to read them properly.

YAY! i read all the Unfortunate Events books in middle school and freshman/sophmore years of highschool! they are amazing!

If they are anything like the Series of Unfortunate Events, I will pass. The end of the series was probably the biggest disappoint of a series thus far. I read on it for a decade, and the end result was a wish that I had never wasted my time.

If you were a fan of the Series, you’d expect the ending to be like that. I was addicted to the books since I was 11, and I was disappointed with the 13th,but that was pretty much expected.Making happy endings or even conclusions isn’t so Lemony Snicket-ish.

I just have one thing to say…

I hope the books have that same look and feel as the “A Series of Unfortunate Events” books. I liked those edgy pages and colorful spines. Also, the Brett Helquist illustrations were my favorite.

the books are amazing and im crazy about the new books.

  • A Very Unfortunate Reader

Should I pick these books up when they come out? I don’t know if i should, those other novels were rather unfortunate… I had nightmares for weeks after reading the end. someone should ban this Mr. Snicket from writing anymore atrocious books about gruesome and unfortunate events. Someone could become unhinged from reading even a snippet!
