EW has learned exclusively that Rick Riordan — whose mega-selling Percy Jackson books have long been the rage in the 8-to-12 set — will be embarking on a new fantasy series. The Kane Chronicles, Book One: The Red Pyramid goes on sale May 4, 2010. “As a teacher, I’ve had so much fun watching Percy Jackson ignite kids’ interest in Greek mythology, but in my classroom, one subject was even more popular,” Riordan tells EW. “Now I’m excited that The Kane Chronicles can introduce young readers to one of my all-time favorite topics — the amazing world of ancient Egypt.”

Awesome. I love his Percy Jackson series. Hopefully this is just as amazing. I also hope he’ll start on that new half-blood series like he promised…

everyone liked his half-blood series and I know personallyhta it will be hard to follow a series based on ancient egypt. he should just stick with ancient greece.
He is, This Is Completely unrelated except he’s branching off with a different myth set, He is Writing a Sequel Series To PJO, PJO Charry’s Are Still used yet they are minor. Most Likely This Series will follow the Great Prophecy at The End of Book 5.
I’m a huge percy jackson fan! And I’m excited for Rick’s new series. I do wish he could also continue the half blodd series
I’m all for this. I think he’s done all he can with the half-blood series, quite frankly. It was good, but this will be good too.
Don’t worry people who want the half-blood series! I heard he’s going to make another half-blood series but he’s focusing on this series first. Any way at the end of book five *spoilers* there was a new prophecy.
I’d like to learn some Egypt stuff now! It’ll be fun because I really don’t know much about. With Greek mythology I knew some stuff so thought it was sort of dumbed down because I already knew the things. It got a little annoying, but this time I’ll experience just as others do. I’ll be learning as he writes it.
One last thing is I kind of hope that this series will be coexisting with the Percy Jackson series. But that’d be hard to say why there’s this god of the sun and this other god of the sun for Egypt a.k.a. Apollo vs. Ra. Still it’d be cool of Rick could create his own universe of all the myths and legends. Maybe it’s the Norse gods next! That’d be awesome!
I’m so pumped for this series. I absolutely loved the PJO series. I knew a bit about Greek Mythology, and I know a bit about Egyptian Mythology, so I think it will be cool. About the other Half-Blood series, maybe this is it, and the prophecy links to this. Think about it, it would work.
I AGREE COMPLETELY! I really, really, really want rick riordan to write a series about norse myths! Even though I already know them I LOVE them!
Oh and P.S. I hope this one’s about a girl. It feels to me there is less big blockster movies with girls as the main character or they really just haven’t come out yet.
You’re so right, I hope that it’s about a girl. It would be great cause I would be able to relate to the main character better, but there probably would be more cheesy romance stuff that annoys me.

WTF. an egyption series. then why the f**k you you put in a new prophacey about the next end of the world at the end of the last olympian. i mean serisuly WTF!!! the lightning theif book was the one that got me started reading and now he starts a new series about acient egypt. i LOVED the half-blood series. just stick with the ancient grece stuff Rick Riordin. Srry. i didnt mean to trash the book yet. i love rick books and i belive the new series will be good no doubt but i just LOVE the percy jackson series and that new prophacey at the end of the “last olympian” got me sooooooooooooooooooo pumped for a new one.

Chill, guys. Rick Riordan is STILL continuing the Greek series, he’s just also doing another series based on Egyptian Mythology. Also, I highly doubt the prophecy in The Last Olympian will be in the Kane chronicles. That will most likely stay in the Greek series. Besides, I think this series will be really good! I mean, Egyptian mythology is not as popular as Greek mythology, but maybe Rick will help people, kids and adults, to see how awesome the Egyptian gods, like Ra, are. I can’t wait! I’ll be able to learn more about mythology, and actually have fun reading it! Still, we all can choose whether or not to read the Kane Chronicles. So far, from what I read on Rick’s blog, it sounds very good.
PS – I hope, if Riordan ever makes another series, that it would be on Norse mythology. Norse gods rock! lol!
no!!…. this series is going to crash and burn. what i really want to see is what happens after the last olympian. i mean after there is no big three pact and every god has a cabin what happens to everyone? i think its not just me but is this what you all really want to see too?

I am thrilled!! I am a huge Percy Jackson series fan, in fact, I have been teaching “The Lightning Thief” for the last two school years and my middle schoolers LOVE it! I can’t wait to introduce them to this new series!

I do like greek better but egyption is awesome!!!!! as Roda said he is making another half blood series that comes out next fall!!! i want to read that more but at least i’ll have some good stuff to read for like a few weeks. I also realy want to go to the camp half blood that the book people make.
