Dean Koontz to pen three more 'Frankenstein' novels

Categories: Dean Koontz, Fiction

Dean Koontz, the suspense/horror author who, in our hearts and our alphabetical bookshelves, comes right after Stephen King, has just signed on with Bantam Books to write three more entries in his popular Frankenstein series.

The initial novels were paperback bestsellers, but these upcoming sequels will be hardcover. The first, Lost Souls, will pick up the storyline two years following events in the last book, Dead and Alive.

“I really enjoy writing this series,” said Koontz in the press release. “Its special conventions allow me to explore the timeless themes of the Frankenstein story—man’s story—from an entirely fresh perspective.”

Ol’ Bolt-Neck has had quite a few unconventional incarnations (from Mel Brooks to the Edgar Winter Group), so I guess three more won’t hurt. I admit to not having read any of the books, but is anybody out there a big fan and happy that this series is, ahem, ALIVE?!

The truth is that Koontz is very hit or miss with his novels. Sure, every book he puts out is a best seller, but if you actually read his stuff you’ll find yourself largely disappointed.
He churns his novels out very quickly and it shows. I’d rather have him write one good novel every 2 years than 4 bad ones within the same timeframe.

I can’t say I’m surprised given the way he ended “Dead and Alive.” I liked “Prodigal Son” well enough to read the whole series but I thought the second book was really boring and the third was so clunky and a major disappointment. I doubt I’ll read his next installment.

I have read the first 3 Frankenstein books in this series and I really enjoyed them, am happy to hear that he’s doing more.

this is only good if they don’t take the several YEARS to finish the series like last time!! plus, i may have loved the series, but koontz writes the same thing over and over. the same characters, just diff names, heck, even the same bad “guy/entity”.

I JUST finished reading Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein for school. It sucks.

It “sucks?” Maybe it sucks because you don’t get it. In that case, maybe you shouldn’t label it as sucking but instead should try harder to understand it. It’s easier to just quit, though, and say it sucks; that is a great philosophy in life.

Eng.Major, hard-to-please; “love” Koontz’s works: “intelligent & cosmic” “can’t wait-for next-bk.” Glad wasn’t able to get to “Book3-Frankenstein” and unable to finish it until, now, just-before Halloween. “Great Read” this time-year! Look forward to more in-series. Hope the “Sync.” line-of-thought continues to be-explored from diff. perspectives! Always look forward to dogs’ perspectv.& global/universal/infinite-slants.
