We were fortunate enough to meet Frank McCourt on one of his tours- after he’d written ‘Tis and he seemed a kind and generous man. ‘Angelas Ashes’ remains the greatest autobiography I have ever read and I will never forget reading most of it in tears; nor the feeling that I had read an amazing work of art when I finished it. This great writer made me think of food, love, laughter (tears) and rain in a whole other way, what a brilliant brilliant man.

Thank you for sharing, Lisa. I’ve just wnadered my house today, doing chores and felling so sad for our loss of Frank McCourt. Angela’s Ashes is my favorite book of all-time and he was an exquisite writer. He will be greatly missed. Many condolences to his family.

Thank you for sharing, Lisa. I’ve just wandered my house today, doing laundry and such and feeling so sad for our loss of Frank McCourt. I was in love with Angela’s Ashes the first time I read it. His writing was exquisite. He will be missed. I’d been waiting for another book. Many condolences to the family. So sorry for your loss.

For all he has given us all I have to offer is thanks. The first chapter of Angela’s Ashes was so amazing, the stories of Frank watching his brothers and sisters and stealing bananas for them to eat. Then right at the end of the chapter when he told the readers, oh by the way, all of this happened when I was five. I was hooked.

A testament to his skills… everytime I started reading one of his books, I would talk with a slight brogue for a couple weeks.

He will be missed!

Is it just me, or does Ms. Schwarzbaum’s tribute smack of parasitism and self-aggrandizement? Apparently, given how she has written her role as the midwife to his book,we have her–not Mr. McCourt–to thank for ‘Angela’s Ashes.’ Ick.

Thank you for this beautiful tribute to Frank McCourt. My wife and saw Frank McCourt in San Jose. After his talk our son ask us if we would like too me him. Margaret said to him, “Michael, we’ve already met him in Angela’s Ashes”. God bless you Frank

Angela’s Ashes was an amazing book. You almost would cry, gasp in disbelief and then laugh out loud. I still take note of my dinner and warm clean bed since reading of McCourt’s childhood. God bless him, and this superior storyteller will be remembered with respect.

Thank you so much for such a beautiful tribute. Wonderful memories of a truly good man. I’m going to have to listen to his audiobooks again. As wonderful as they are to read, there’s nothing like listening to his voice recount his own stories.
