I love the twilight saga, and really don’t think that the actors portraying Bella and Edward look or act as described in the books. However, this doesn’t appeal to me at all. It looks like something an 8 year would like on Saturday morning cartoons. I think the artist is talented but the overall concept doesnt add anything to what my imagination has already created. I’ll stick to that.
i think this might be a little to much but i probably still go and add it to my twilight saga collection
Why are people so obsessed with hating popular things? Why were you even looking at this article? Get a life.
ok… i have a question for you. If your telling us to get a life, why are you on this site anyway? If you had anything better to do yourself, you wouldn’t be here dissing us, therefore YOU get a life!
True nerds and geeks are open to new ideas- they don’t shut down others and what they enjoy. Just remember, “Lost Boys” is fictional too.
Vampires sparkling? A romantic notion, but face it. Twilight is mostly written for girls to read. Plus many other books dont paint vampires as the evil people thats come to suck them dry. 9ever heard of the Night World series?) TRUE NERDS AND GEEKS would have let it go. So what if you don’t like Twilight. Don’t go and publicize it. You don’t like it? Then don’t read it. Simple.
I love twilight and think that people that think twilight is the only book that makes vampires look different should read the house of Night seriously guys!
I think they should have drawn Robsten.. In that way you don’t get so “confused” And Rob is WAY hotter than that drawing xD
Wow! I can’t believe the number of flash judgments on the perceived quality of the finished product based solely on one single unfinished illustration. Bella will not be blonde in the graphic novel! The drawing will be colored in later. Use your brain for crying out loud.
Second, I’m so sick of people bashing the actors and implying that their careers will go nowhere after the film franchise is complete. Can I borrow your crystal ball so I can see what direction the stock market will take? *rolls eyes*
Anyone who is so personally offended by the casting of these films needs to get a life while they still can.
At the end of the day they’re just books and movies. Get a grip why don’t you?
^^
some brilliant points,excellently put.
lets not have a vendetta against the poor actors, everyone is entitled to their opinion but, when did you people become experts on movie-casting etc?sorta pathetic to be perfectly honest.
no,the movie wasn’t great, but ya know what, you really just have to get over it because its not real life and its not life or death! some of you are just greatly over opinionated. Maybe you should put the energy it takes to constantly complain about this sorta unimportant rubbish into something that matters outside of your own little bubbles.
agreed! I read the books first before it was anything major and i loved them. When i found out they were making a movie i was super excited. I will admit that i was disappointed in the movie but it is after all not real life. i believe it could have been better but not terrible. hope this new one is an improvemnt! most books are better than the movies.. thats just the way it is!
I totally agree with Jes. I love the books and i was disappointed with the movie… but i got over it. It was a moment of What the? but i forgot it and went on with my life. So the made a few mistakes… ok many… OK they totally messed up the movie! but they can’t get everything in there. Relax, breath, its just a movie, its not like your life is based on that…
thank you!
some one needed to say this.
THANK YOU!!!!!
i tottaly agree with u hope.
i tottaly agree with u sarah!
actually i am from greece. i’ve read twilight about 5 times…new moon only 2 and eclipse 6 times. i haven’t read breaking dawn yet. it will come in bookstores in september and i just can’t wait.
the idea of a grafic version of stephenie meyer’s book seems a really good idea. i hope that it will be published in greece too and i am glad that they do not look like robert pattinson and kristen stewart{i do not have any priblem with them}. it is better like that because edward and bella are not real people; they are book characters.
well we just have to wait and see if it is good.
excuse my mistakes at grammar or vocabulary.
I couldn’t agree more with your statement. I enjoyed reading the series and will wait to cast my judgement on a project until I have read it through. And if you are worried about buying another “Twilight”, make full use of your local library.
i really love the fact that its more like the book and less like the actors, for a while it felt like the whole saga was being drowned and tainted by media and the movie. im glad that there is a movie though i feel proud when i see it. it was most definetly not the best movie ever but just seeing the name everywherre i looked i couldnt hep but feel the overwhelming sense of joy that i was here before the movies and its like yeah, theres twilight, i know, its amazing. i dont need being told. ahhh,,ilovetwilight. and most importantly edward cullen.
I swear it’s a Zoe thing, that is my exact sentiment. I love the books and I’m glad there is a film. It’s not my favourite film and they aren’t my favourite actors, but it’s still Twilight. I feel the effects let the film down, as did the directing, but I still enjoy it as an interpretation of the books.
Twilight Rules! XD
Ashley Greene is the best in the entire movie… GO TEAM ALICE!!!!
im in luv with robert pattinson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why does this remind me of an A-Ha video from 1986?
ROFLMBO! I thought the same thing!
*take on meeee* sing
Lexie, you say the illustration looks as though Bella has never been flawed in her life. Though she is very pretty in the above drawing, you can see how she would think of herself as ordinary. Think of other ‘anime’ or ‘manga’ characters out there. They have boobs falling out of their clothes, perfect figures, million dollar smiles. So, in comparison to other characters drawn in the same Korean, or any other Asian style, I believe that the artist did a good job with her. I think the illustration suits her well, though of course the graphic novel won’t fit every reader’s mental image.
I think Stephenie Meyer is obsessed with cash at this point. I think she’s a total famewhore, void of any notion of what artistic integrity means. She should either write new books, actually do what authors do, or just go away. She’s worse than the Gosslins when it comes to wanting her name in a headline.
How dare you!?! That is one of THE most offensive things I have heard about Stephenie Meyer. Do you really think that when the books were published she was thinking “Oh, yes, I’m rich!”? Yes, that’s exactly the motivation of most authors. *heavy sarcasm* Secondly, in case you hadn’t noticed, the one thing people notice about Twilight in the headlines these days is the stupid dramas on the movie sets! The corporations controlling the films are the ones pushing all the ridiculous merchandise and publicity!
thank u emma. someone that is right about all of this. i tottaly agreee with u and tn. nobody should say stuff about someonr that they dont kno about. all of u people out there who say that she was only doing this for money u r wrong.u al might want to rething it over. cuz that is vey rude of u all to say that about her. u all dont kno anything at all.and for some weird reason she was wrighting these books for money? what if she needed it and if she did it doesnt mean that u have to be rude about it and say that is what she was thinking? and this is so dumb of u all to say that about her.
Um, in case you haven’t noticed, most authors write books with the motivation to make money. O_o And I highly doubt that Stephenie Meyer ‘needs’ the money, as she’s making millions of the awful cash cow we call Twilight.
And chill out, OK? Kate is just expressing a valid opinion. Rabid fans are part of what gives this series such a bad name.
You all need to chill out! If you read Stephenie’s ‘story’ you will see she didn’t intend to get the book published, and maybe she DID need the money, you don’t know her so don’t judge her! Its not like she was making posters of “BUY MY BOOKS AND GIMMIE MONEY!!!” Her books were published 2003. The last book breaking dawn got published 2008. They didn’t get mentioned at all until 2009 when the stupid media ‘discovered them’ and started obsessing over cash! and for may’s information, yes authors write books to make money. WHAT OF IT?! Being an author is just like any other job. You work, you hand it in, you get payed. Don’t CEOS and cops do the same thing. Firefighters and doctors, lawyers, etc. They all get payed. I don’t see you walking up to a cop and questioning his money!
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
How dare you say that! If Stephenie Meyer wanted fame and money she would be on Oprah, Enews, Ellen,Good Morning America, ect. Have you seen her on those shows?! NO! All you see are robert and kristen showing up on those shows. Not even the GOOD actors and actresses like Ashley Greene, Nikki Reed,Kellan Lutz, ect. are even interviewed. robert and kristen are only on these shows because they are unfortunantly playing Edward and Bella. I could go on forever on the subject but I will just end it here.
PS I will so buy this book to get the images of robert and kristen as Edward and Bella out of my head…and it looks so good
Newsflash: they go on “those shows” because they have to – it’s called promoting the movie and they’re contractually obligated to. Also, please give some examples of Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz’s amazing acting? Grasping at straws much? Did Kristen Stewart and Rob Pattinson steal your puppy?
What? Stephenie Meyer doesn’t do talk shows? Then who was Ellen talking to last year about how her idea for Twilight came about? hmmm I thought it was Stephenie *rolls eyes*
thank u tn someone that is understanding for once.
You don’t know what the crap your talking about! You don’t know crap about her! Kate!!!!!!
well “anne” those actors and actresses play the part perfectly of Alice, Emmett, and Rosealie.
They didnt steal my puppy they stole my imagination. now every time i read the books i get their image in my head. Now Edward is ugly and Bella talks like a guy and stutters. So if you seem to like “rob” so much why dont you go marry him.You only like robert because he is Edward. I was just defending Stephenie before.
TN, “why don’t you marry him”? What are you – 10 years old?
Stop bashing Kate for speaking her mind. I thought the point of these comments were to discuss Twilight and the graphic novel, not to insult other people. You say it’s bad to insult people you don’t know, but isn’t that what you’re doing right now? There’s a person on the other side of the computer, so think before you type, OK?
I agree completely. People can flame me for saying this, but it’s true and people need to wise up. Stephenie did the first book well, then after Eclipse came out and the fandom exploded exponentially, she realized how much money she was making. (Honestly, Edward Cullen Body Glitter? Action Figures?? ftl…) If you look at it, really look, you’ll see she’s completely destroyed the image of vampires, given girls false images of how men should be, and made stalking look like it’s totally okay.
actually it has only given the people (people not girls) an image of vampires. anyway who says that that is how ALL girls look at vampires nowadays? hundreds of years of vampire stereotypes are not going to be erased by a percentage of the population (i know its a large percentage) who like Twilight. And speaking of stereotypes, there ARE people who like Twilight because of Rob and there ARE people who may prefer the movies to the books but does that make them bad people just because they hav different preferences from you? leave them with their opinions and mind your own because what are you trying to prove to them? it is unlikely that u will persuade them to come over to your side just by numbers.
this isnt a conversation on the manga Twilight but on who thinks that they are right and no one else is entitled to their opinions. i mean “rejoice real fans” just because some one doesnt like the books but likes the movie or Stephenie or her ideas dosent make them say “a chocolate fan” if you enjoy the books/film/merchandise- you are a fan. whats with the “rejoicing” anyway? its a manga. yay. end of story. its not like this is a major breakthrough in the world. its a big publicity stunt and its going to work because of Twilight. im not saying it will be bad. but im not saying it will be good either.
major rant over.
i agree with you .kimberly, totally agree.
its. a. book. a story. entertainment. not real. if i had the chance to build on a multi-million dollar empire based on one of my dreams, i absolutely would. the twilight saga isn’t the first book to branch out into other markets and it wont be that last. she’s not a sell-out. the actors aren’t sellouts. the publishers arent sell-outs. the producers arent sell-outs. the fans that get excited about new twilight merchandise and other realms of this fantasy world aren’t sellouts either. the story is based on one authors idea of vampires and love and romance. if you don’t like it, that’s fine. but my goodness, stop chastizing those that do. is edward cullen body glitter really going to make a negative difference in your world? of all of the things that young girls could be buying, makeup that makes them sparkle is the least offensive. get off of your high horse and go write a book or something.
Ok. This is a freaking book. You people are getting in a freaking tizz over a book. The fact that she created a new image of vampires just shows that she knew people wouldn’t want to read about the same blood sucking, night dwelling, coffin sleeping vampires that everyones already heard of. I would think that people would want something different. Oh and Edward body glitter has nothing to do with the BOOKS it is a product of the MOVIES!!!! Yes, she probably made a small profit from it but it really couldn’t have anything to do with her work. Its part of Catherine Hardwick’s work. The only way Stephenie would get any profit is beacause she came up with the title of “Twilight” and “Edward Cullen”.
i completely agree i mean i do love twilight but i read on a blog how girls are crying over the fact they really want to be vampires and i know they have been reading nightworld, vampire diaries twilight…ect. but there was a documentary on a real vampires and a interview and he wasn’t inhumanly beautiful he didn’t have extreme bloodlust he looked almost scary. so how could take your virtues from a FICTIONAL book i would ask them .
I mean read the first page it says”THE CHARACTERS AND EVENTS IN THIS BOOK ARE FICTITIOUS”take the hint girls edward cullen is not real!!
Yes, people have their own opinions and they are all different. Some like books, some like movies, some don’t like anything related to Twilight! Does it matter! Either way, we are all people with different opinions and different lives. No need to start growling just because someone doesn’t think the same as you. And seriously! Glitter? Is that your biggest worry? People are buying cocaine and your worried about GLITTER!
u r being harsh kate. =s that is what u think.
Badly written, badly developed, anti-feminist, promotes abusive relationships, promotes paedophilia, missuses sparkles, over uses the thesaurus… Basically 100% mormon housewife fantasy and millions of girls are fapping to it. Wow.
Oh, and now theyre making a graphic novel of this crap to give rabid fans a better visual image because its not fun enough to have Hollywood actors doing it. This is crack up. Keep milking it SMeyer… Keep milking it…
yes and the great romance novels of our time all revolved around perfectly well-lit relationships with flawless men and iron-willed women. i STRONGLY urge you to pick up something written by one of the bronte sisters or jane austen or hell, judy blume and tell me that twilight isn’t just a modern version of books written by these authors. twilight, its author, and its publisher dont PROMOTE anything. People, such as yourself, do. young girls that read this dont fantasize about being beaten or used or attacked. they fantasize about a romantic relationship, prince charming, the intensity of first love. what the hell is so wrong with a boy that sparkles!? with a world as screwed up as ours, is a fantastical story like this really so bad?
Sad that on the day Harry Potter came out it doesn’t have the top spot on the slide. This is why I no longer subscribe to Entertainment Weekly. The Twilight coverage is just too much. It’s fun. I don’t mind some coverage. For awhile, I thought maybe it was subsiding a bit. But today? Harry Potter just broke the record for best opening and THIS is your top headline? Seriously? Bad call, EW. Today confirmed I’ll be getting my entertainment news elsewhere from now on.
That’s so true. It’s good for Twilight to get coverage, because they were great books (not so much the movie), but having it eclipse the Harry Potter movie, when so many people still love it, is weird.
I’m not that big a fan of all this Twilight over-hype either, but it is sadly what the people want. Squimish tween girls are the major market these days, and they want Twilight.
And also, on the Harry Potter note, i absolutely loved the sixth book. It was my favourite of them all. And then they go and make this horrible movie that made me want to kick myself! Yeah, it broke records, but that’s just because it’s an equally over-hyped franchise! The movie was really bad, compared to the book. So not everyone loved it.
For me the magic of reading comes in using the author’s descriptions and my imagination to create my own scenes and characters. A book that does it for me is boring.
I don’t think that these drawings look like the Edward and Bella that I imagined. Ruffles? C’mon now. But, I think that a graphic novel could be interesting…so I’ll reserve judgment.
That being said, I DO think that Robert and Kristen look like Edward and Bella. Even though the first film sucked, I blame that on Catherine (bad editing, terrible special effects, the annoying blue tint, the terrible score/camera angles, and the ridiculous dialogue, as well as Catherine’s attempt to make the film a quirky/eerie/intense action film instead of a classic love story). Anyways, I think that the actors were perfectly cast (except for Nikki Reed), and I’m crossing my fingers for New Moon, now that we have a new director.
Wow. Honestly. You stole the thoughts out of my head. I am so happy that there are others that think the same way I do. Nikki Reed..don’t get me started.
I completely agree too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You’re right on with the movie, and the characters. I have high expectations for New Moon
Why is everyone always saying that Nikki Reed was not good for Rosalie? She looks like how Stephanie described her.Blond hair tall pretty. Why was she not good to be cast as Rosalie? Please tell me.
Rosalie Hale is supposed to be unbelievably beautiful and I think many just don’t see Nikki Reed that way. She is much prettier as a brunette, I think the blonde washes her out too much. She isn’t that tall either, but she definitely has the vain and haughty “look” down, which is how Rosalie was described. I picture Rosalie flawless, just how she’s described, and very elegant, poised, graceful, but again, with a haughty demeanor. I just don’t see Nikki Reed as those things, she looks too artificial to me.
theyre supposed to look like the edward and bella that s meyer imagined. and yeah the film had a lot of problems but the dialog was for the most part straight from the book. and its not all catherine hardwicks fault considering the budget was like 2 million dollars so dont be so insulting. and niki reed plays a good bitch so thats probably how she bot rosalie
ok so the some of the dialogue may have come from the book, but for the most part it was poorly butchered. For example: Bella says you speak as if you were from another time, but the Edward of the movie does not speak as if he were from another time, he speaks like a modern day teenager. My favorite line from the book is a perfect example of this. In the book Edward says ” I decided as long as I was going to hell, I might as well do it thoroughly”, in the movie: “I’m going to hell anyway”. The dialogue from the book was better and helped to flesh out the characters. I was very disappointed in the poor transition from book to big screen. I do still watch it, mostly when I’m doing something else and I just want to think about Twilight, let us all just hope that New Moon is sooo much better.
I completely agree with you regarding the casting of Edward and Bella. I love the casting *and acting*, and I was very emotionally attached to the book/characters. I do wish Twilight focused even more on character development. It felt like a vehicle to make you want to see New Moon. Also, I didn’t like the scenes where Edward was jumping around while talking to Bella in the forest. It was a little to “show off” for him–especially since restraint his his key character trait. I was not a fan of Rosalie (liked Victoria A LOT better, too bad she’s recasted). Also, those illustrations in this article look terrible.
I just finished reading the series, and was really disappointed in it. However, I think I may have enjoyed a little pit more had I read it graphic-novel style!!!!
beth if you found the series disappointing you shouldnt be commenting on anything twilight. it makes you look like a hater.
So what if it does? There are a lot of twilight haters out there and I’m one of them and proud of it.
what’s so great about twilight that people are now restricted to only say great things about it? let beth say w/e she wants to say. I used to be a twilight fan (before it became so hyped up) but now that’s fading. i’m tired of people (fans of twilight) attacking others just because they dont like the series and people who hate the series attacking people that do. IT’S JUST A BOOK! there is nothing significant about it. so all of this fighting over how great or how stupid this book is is really annoying. and dont get me started on the media attention of twilight…
Thank you Lulu! Let Beth say what she wants too cause Jerrica, Beth doesn’t look like a hater, you do.
I am super-excited! Looks fantastic, and I love that Stephenie Meyer is involoved!
I love the books they are amazing but i think Robert and Krirsten play Edward and Bella amazingly you cant find actors who will be right for everyone who read the books I dont know what the rest of you are on about saying that they are rubish.
I Honestly, i don’t see what everyone’s complaining about with Twilight actors (espesh R Patts and Kristen Stewart). I mean, hello? They’re not trying to be fame-grabbing loonatics and they’re not stuck up about what they do or how far they are in their careers. I just think some people are so hypocritical because (lets face it) who would wanna be slagged off about how brilliantly they’re doing in anything they do, yet you guys still do it! It’s a bit silly, to be fair.
x
And come on, if you don’t like the movie, then fair enough. Just don’t go on and on like everyone else in the world does…phew!
Just for the record I bum the film and the books are fantastic…shame about Midnight Sun
Oh Rambo! Midnight Sun is still on! They expect it around March 2010! At least that’s what i heard!
okay, this is something i didnt think would happen. A book with pictures .. great. i mean i am the bigest (one of them =P ..) fan of twilight and the rest that follows and ive read the series at least 20x each cause i cant get sick of them, but the drawing that i see didnt quite catch my eye. of course edward looks good, but bella is still not what i saw her as. even in the movie, i didnt see her like that. people just cant put what i see on paper or in the movie so i guess i will never be fully pleased .. of course the books are 1 000 000 000x times better then the movies, but i think that finally moving the movie aside and making something different then what we see in the movie is good. if we get overwhelmed and we see just what we see on the screen all the time, we are all gonna get sick of it. They are even replacing the covers of the mooks with the movie’s cover!!!!!!!!! that is THE WORST THING THEY COULD OF DONE ! but this is going to be nice, and yes i am going to go out and buy it and hope to like it .. which i probably will ! XD
This is great! So much closer to the characters I imagine than the actors in the movie. Although I enjoyed the movie, I was a little disappointed in the differences in the story from book to movie, but I guess that always happens…the books are always better.
It’s kind of like eating something really good at a Restaurant, and trying to make it by yourself at home and isn’t as good as your first time..
